Bruce Springsteen, tonight in Minneapolis, was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. A true American rock star. Grateful to have been here.

I want to say this too: this victory was won because we had observers EVERYWHERE. ICE and CBP couldn't set foot in our city without cameras rolling. Much of the nation seemed determined to ignore our plight for weeks, but the avalanche of documentation we produced dragged the nation to us.

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

People will die, and are currently dying, because RFK was granted one of the most powerful megaphones in the country. Two people who could have thrown barriers in front of his climb decided not to; there's a sex scandal here but it is not the biggest scandal.

Well-written and deeply researched, Making the Liberal Media delivers new and significant insights into how conservative leaders employed the "liberal media" claim to build a movement that came to dominate US politics and policy formation. Bauer is an exceptional storyteller.
Sid Bedingfield, author of Newspaper Wars: Civil Rights and White Resistance in South Carolina, 1935-1965

With deep curiosity, creativity, and intellectual skill, A.J. Bauer has unearthed a story about the rise of the right that shifts the paradigm, by placing the habit of criticizing the media at the core of conservative identity. It is full of irony and richness, and utterly convincing.
Rick Perlstein, author of Reaganland: America's Right Turn 1976-1980

Through meticulous archival research, AJ Bauer shows that “liberal media bias” is not just a slogan, but foundational to modern conservatism. From anti-communism to MAGA, newspapers to Joe Rogan, Making the Liberal Media traces the roots of right-wing media criticism and how it structured and legitimized the modern right. An essential read for understanding how conservative critiques of journalism became a political strategy, an identity marker, and a driver of media innovation.

A fine journalist and an even better friend. I learned from him at CNN and again at the University of South Carolina. A pro’s pro. Charles, you’ll be missed.

Since Lowndes County is in the news b/c of the story I QTed it is worth mentioning that the area has a long history of racist violence and Black resistance to it. The Selma to Montgomery March went through Lowndes County. It was a battlefield for voting right and SNCC. Always, the past is never past

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

What's the over/under on how long it takes for this to be normalized by Trump's media allies? #WTF www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I'm sad the largest org in my field is forced to manage the (totally legit) concerns from international scholars about entering the U.S. for a conference this year. The reputational damage to the U.S. sucks; far more awful is missing building and learning from the colleagues who feel in danger.
