Had a lovely night photographing the lunar eclipse on March 13. The coyotes started howling right after totality. A little wild nature was exactly what my soul needed.

Got some rare snow on the southwest coast of Canada. A peaceful walk while the flakes came down was much needed.

I see people deactivating various social media accounts, which I understand & respect, but I’m done letting Bad Tech Bros™️ chase me out of my community spaces.
Maybe there are no more “good places.” Maybe there are only good people doing their best to navigate—& use for good—problematic spaces.
I'm over on Substack today writing about hope, poetry, and the power of community. With much inspiration from The Poets Corner and Writing the Wild. open.substack.com/pub/ovenbird...

We could all learn something from the quiet, watchful stillness of a great blue heron.

I will stay open to the beauty of the world. This, too, is a form of resistance.
A little more than halfway through this incredible book by @nnedi.bsky.social
There are so many things I love about it and I think this might be a year to read more sci Fi and speculative fiction. I think people see these genres as less "serious" but that couldn't be further from the truth! 📚 💙📚🪐
Today on my walk I encountered our resident beaver as well as a raven being dive bombed by crows. Seeing these two incredible animals really lifted my spirit!
Finished She Who Knows in a single day and it was the best way to spend January 1st. I was completely captivated! I will be reading more by @nnedi.bsky.social
My daughter is now reading Akata Witch and loving it!
Starting 2025 with some West African sci-fi, fantasy. I haven't read the novel that this little novella is back story for, but I'm guessing it's going to end up next in my to read pile. 💙 📚 🪐📚
I love this fact! I took up birding during the pandemic and it has enriched my life in so many ways!
fun Friday birding facts:
🐤 more than 35 percent of the country’s population aged 16 and over are birders
🐦 birders in 2022 spent an estimated $107.6 billion on expenses related to their pursuits (... PS: that’s almost six times the total revenue generated by the NFL that year)

Update: loved this!! A wild romp through the forest with a good dose of witches and wild folk and devils. I loved the complication of the devil and the critique of the human relationship with nature. Wicked but also full of empathy and the illustrations are fantastic. Highly recommend!
Picture shows the cover of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. A small girl in a white coat and brown boots frolicks down a stone path that winds between the hedges, flowers, and grasses of a secluded garden. There is a Robin flying overhead.

I loved this one too!
I've heard so many good things too! I haven't read any of his other books but may give them a try if I like this one.
I finished this book yesterday and absolutely loved it. Powers sifted through all the beauty and terror of being alive and took readers on an existential quest that was both painful and expansive.
