Had such a lovely day at Twickenham today. 10s of thousands of people came & celebrated England’s success. We proudly waved the English flag. We celebrated women’s sport. Everyone was welcome. Everyone was kind. We cheered the teams that came 2nd, 3rd & 4th. This is what matters.

Daily Mail previews a "weekend of anarchy".

Calls for mass protests outside 14 asylum hotels appear to seen up to 1500 anti- turn up, with several hundred counter-protestors.

The police made two arrests in Canary Wharf, one from each side. Have not yet seen reports of arrests elsewhere tonight.

This is an excellent statistic, do you mind if I share it on the other place?

“It looks like you are trying to defend Trump’s policies. Would you like me to turn on caps lock and disable spell check?”

“It looks like you are trying to defend Trump’s policies. Would you like me to turn on caps lock and disable spell check?”

I still lurk on “the other place” (mainly to try and provide some scientific/medical sense amongst the sea of awfulness, although very much appreciate it would be better for my well being if I didn’t). Saw this today and thought Bluesky would appreciate

An expensive big pharma grab-bag (in a case) to free you from big pharma.
Makes perfect sense
🙄

What’s actually in it? Presumably drugs from “big pharma” that the buyer is paying handsomely to be free from?

It made me so angry watching that press conference. Schoolyard bullies both of them.

The rare flip-side of the immunological coin: Post-vaccine syndrome (PVS). Vaccines are transformational medicines at the population level, saving millions of lives over hundreds of years. However, any medicine can carry rare individual risks.

A recent pre-print yet to be peer reviewed has been published that explores the very rare side effects of covid vaccine. It’s an important study but one that is quickly being weaponised. I wanted to try and clarify what this preprint does and does not say 🧪

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Among Young Athletes Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic This cohort study compares the prevalence of sudden cardiac arrest or death among young athletes in the 3 years before vs the first 3 years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Among Young Competitive Athletes Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic

No, just no, vaccines also did not cause more cardiac arrests among athletes. They just did not.

"Died suddenly" is all a lie, it always was.

Interesting. We’ve had a few with severe delirium and hypertension (which settled - none had LPs). Both H1N1 pdm09 (which is the predominant strain in the UK this winter).

Thanks for replying. Really difficult to assess ICU delirium vs neurological symptoms of influenza. Was hypertension a feature?

Interested if anyone is seeing clinical influenza A (specifically H1N1pdm09) associated encephalitis this winter?

Considering not condidering (sorry),
condithering (consider + dither) would have been a better typo.

Flu cases rising fast in the UK. If you’ve been condidering a ‘flu vaccine but haven’t got around to it yet, getting it done asap would be a good idea

RFK stance on vaccines is not new and definitely not just related to mRNA covid vaccines. This is an article from 2015 www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015...

I completely understand the concerns with rapid development and rollout (although counter with the fact that this was vital in the situation we faced) and with use of technology that hadn’t been used on such a large scale before.
I disagree with your claim they were untested

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

As I understand it this is related to confusion about the term “gene therapy”. It is a “technique that uses a gene to treat, prevent or cure a disease or medical disorder”. mRNA vaccines do not enter the nucleus as mRNA is translated in the cytoplasm. They do not alter genes

Agreed! It’s always a tricky balance with such a wide audience

Important thread. Please don’t start regular salbutamol for anything that vaguely sounds like wheeze in ICU unless you are happy it is due to bronchospasm. Appropriate for bronchospasm but entirely the wrong drug for pulmonary oedema and myriad other pathologies that sound like wheeze in ICU #medsky
