"An organisation devoted to saving lives is now being used as part of trade deals, its precious resources and structural integrity haggled away to multinational companies and foreign bullies."

In a culture of over-consumerism and next-day deliveries, repair cafés — like the one based at Shrewsbury URC in the West Midlands Synod, featured in this BBC report — have sprung up as an antidote, helping to prolong the life of the items we already own.

Awareness raising stall on climate change on Shrewsbury High Street
Enthusing conversations about the #Climate Change Summit in #Brazil and building a greener and fairer world on #Shrewsbury High Street on Saturday! 🇧🇷 🌍 💚 Looking forward to @nickdearden.bsky.social sharing the energy from the grassroots groups in Brazil in Shrewsbury on 2nd December. #COP30
This has been a frustrating 2 weeks but with moments of real hope. The hope comes from an increasingly angry and connected movement which will no longer let big business and political leaders burn our world for their own self interest.
The fight continues.
5/ Climate change was created by the rich. Most of the world can’t and shouldn’t pay the price to solve this problem. We need finance. Yet rich countries like the UK are cutting budgets, leaving us without a solution.

We need an alternative. That’s why we’ve been campaigning for an FFT. We can no longer by held to ransom by petro-states like Saudi or the global north refusing to engage in a real just transition. But hope here:
fossilfueltreaty.org/phase-out-co...
4/ BUT This COP failed to chart a path away from fossil fuels. This is scandalous. Seems Europe has done a deal with the petro-states. We don’t commit to finance, they don’t commit to fossil fuel phase out. Criminals. Never forget.
3/ The transformation must include radical changes to a trade system which protects fossil fuel interests. It’s good that is on the agenda. We will fight to make the world ISDS-free and ditch a system in which the victims compensate the climate criminals.

2/ Movements demanded a just transition mechanism and we made progress. A massive achievement in the face of European obstruction. We can’t fight climate change without an economic transformation.

Thoughts on #COP30:
1/ This is the first time in years delegates have been brought face to face with those on the frontline. The indigenous communities are the heroes of this COP. They refused to be silenced.

Last film from #cop30. We’ve been fighting ISDS here all week because these corporate courts = climate finance in reverse. The victims of the crisis paying the perpetrators. It’s obscene. Abolish ISDS.
We’re gathering for the climate justice mobilisation - led by indigenous communities - demanding a just transition. #cop30
From Cumbria to Colombia the fight against ISDS is on. We’re at #Cop30 to end this toxic system. #CorporateCourts
As COP30 unfolds in Belém, a study has warned that ISDS rules may make Amazon protection expensive for the very governments trying to save it. aftinet.org.au/new-study-is...
“The reminders that your life may be temporary are a constant drain on your mental health. The big news announcements from all the parties take their toll. It’s always there in your mind that your way of life can be taken away from you.“
To reiterate, this is about making life immeasurably more miserable and stressful for some of the most vulnerable people, in the almost certainly vain hope of winning over the votes of racists.
Anything more shabby and shameful is difficult to envisage.

Dozens of academics and experts have written to the government urging them to halt and rethink a deal with big pharma that would increase the amount the NHS spends on vital medicines. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Britain has just been challenged under ISDS for the high court decision on the Cumbria coal mine. Why on earth are they demanding more corporate courts in their trade deal with the Gulf? They are a disaster for climate action.
