Spoke at the Westminster Education Forum Policy Conference. Shared ways to strengthen #inclusion via #resourcedprovisions (RPs) & #specialistunits (SUs): national guidance to define them as inclusive; a unified ‘RP Inclusive Service’ model; in-school multi-agency teams; school-based EHCPs.
Very pleased to share our project on resourced provision in mainstream schools, now featured by @publicpolicyuos.bsky.social. The video highlights how this model can promote both academic and social inclusion for students with disabilities and my engagement with policymakers and the public.

The research identified two models of RP:
1️⃣ As a service promoting inclusion within mainstream classrooms
2️⃣ As a space for specialised provision
I will argue for prioritising RP as an inclusive service, recognising that flexibility between the two can support a realistic approach to inclusion.
Although the number of resource provision (RP) classrooms is growing, we still know little about how they function and their impact. In this talk, I’ll share findings from a recent study with three mainstream schools and will introduce a practical toolkit I co-designed with these schools.

I had so much to say ☺️ and I'm still reflecting on the priorities of this education reform that the SEND system needs!! @uoseducation.bsky.social
I'm also grateful I highlighted the need for research on parents’ challenges to find appropriate provision. Parents of children with SEND have expressed, through their complaints and appeals, that there is a SEND crisis & research needs to address these issues and work towards solutions with them.
Last Thursday, I contributed to the DfE’s round table event focusing on inclusive education for children and young people with SEND. I ‘m grateful for the opportunity to share my research on resourced provision nasenjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... @uoseducation.bsky.social
By reflecting on the toolkit, schools can consider:
i. How to improve the education of students with SEND and their inclusion in the mainstream school
ii. How to improve school collaboration with external professionals and parents
