THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN *SHOW* ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.

This is a really odd argument because I think at the heart of it, there is a deep misunderstanding about what writing is for. I write to communicate my thoughts and ideas, and to bring people along with me, which AI cannot do for me because it isn't me.
my brain when it's time focus on the problem at hand:
It isn't obscure in library circles, and it should be obvious, but it does seem to confuse a lot of people when I note that a bad economy always sees a spike in virtually every library use statistic.
Yeah that was my thought. The underlying AI architecture is still there.

A great read. I remember how fresh and exciting their approach was. It's such a shame it didn't last. We still don't really have an answer for how news survives in the internet age.
As a millennial working in news for more trad companies, I loved BuzzFeed news. I loved the audacity and freshness of its approach. It was so sad to see it get diminished and dismantled.
This is so, so well-articulated.
Books are about different things for writer and reader. The reader wants the end product — the story. But I've learned from doing more creative writing myself that the process is so rewarding. I'm not a pro novelist, but I'm not giving the joy of that writing journey to a machine. I'd lose so much
To be fair, I think I'm with your son on this. It's too good to misquote! 😄
We repeat "having a stronk" and "call a Bondulance" regularly in our house
two of the hardest things ever written are "face god and walk backwards into hell" and "you cannot kill me in a way that matters"
one of them came from a tumblr shitpost and the other one came from a dril tweet about hollering at zoo animals
the internet truly is a magical place
Yesterday Britain generated 91% of it's power through renewables, and 13% through nuclear, while exporting energy to Denmark and Holland, and that's not even a *good* renewables day
No. NO. NONONONONONONONONO. I started regularly keeping a handwritten journal again during the pandemic. A robot can pry it from my cold, dead hands. Have we learned nothing from the previous iterations of big tech? Don't just give your innermost thoughts away to a big company for free!
We were talking about it after the ep finished and realised what we'd just watched and I said "well thank fuck he's dead". I think you're right, they move you along pretty quickly so it doesn't feel too grim. And the tonal shifts are constant, so the show doesn't linger too long in the dark places
My partner's watched all of it, so I can check with them 😄
I haven't, and apologies if I've given too much away. I mistakenly assumed you'd finished the series. Happy to keep schtum from this point on!
I haven't watched Westworld but have some inkling... The one saving grace about the wedding night plotline was that she did at least get to kill him immediately afterwards. But it was another point early on where I almost noped out.
Throughout S1, I was fully invested in Lucy and the Ghoul, but zoned out somewhat whenever it came to anything to do with the Brotherhood of Steel. But Kyle McLachlan was excellent, and I liked the slow reveal of what was going on with Lucy's vault.
I didn't like Maximus's character for most of the series (he's better in S2). I had to spoiler myself for whether he was responsible for the boot incident because I nearly stopped watching at that point. And Lucy's "wedding night" was a tough watch too.
I haven't played the games. Just finished S2. I found S1 compelling, but at times a little too dark/brutal. Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins made it for me. S2 meanders a little for its first half, and perhaps introduces too much complexity for its own good, but I'm invested and looking forward to S3
I will go and listen now!
I only know Hoist Up The Thing but it's hilarious 😆 what do you like about their new song?
