A ★★ review of Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere (2025) The choice to focus in on a single year around the making of the Nebraska album avoids a few of the more schematic pitfalls of the musical biopic, but this still isn't great. Jeremy Allen White gives ...

I think I'll just listen to some more Springsteen, and you should too.

An underseen psychological thriller, the equal of any of Chabrol's Hitchcockian chamber pieces. My copy is signed by lead Deborah Francois.

You're telling me that across ALL their movies and TV shows, over several years, they couldn't find another way to do the proper setup for their major new villain aside from re-releasing a six year old film with a new scene or two bolted on?

A: Bullshit
B: What great storytelling.

This is an accurate take. One of DelToro's very best for me. It's the film that completely squares the 'one for them. one for me' circle of his earlier career, and it's a fucking tragedy he never got to finish the trilogy.

For a less traumatic answer, The Last Picture Show. My favourite film. I've shown it to a lot of people for their first time, but to get that feeling myself again would be amazing.

If I could see it the same way, Martyrs. Saw a preview with cast and director Q and A. Absolutely pole-axed by it, to the point that my legs were still like jelly as we left after the panel. I was still shell shocked talking to Morjana Alaoui outside. I like a real EXPERIENCE of a screening.

24fpsuk's review of 'Like a Virgin' (1984) by Madonna I know this was the album that made Madonna massive, but it's never been one I love. The biggest singles, Material Girl and the title track,…

Yeah, I don't love this one. Not helped by the fact it's biggest tracks are two I flat out dislike.

Somehow, I missed this last week. New single from Scandal. The album is out on May 27th, then the band's 20th anniversary is in August.

Carrying on with my chronological run through Madonna's albums. Like A Virgin, for all that it was the album that really made her huge, has never been one I like. The two big singles are among my least favourites of the pre Hard Candy era. Let's see if the album tracks are better than I remember.

Madonna's first promising sounding album in 2 decades is due for release on July 3rd, which also happens to be my 45th(!!) birthday. Genuinely excited for this.

The Madonna starring A Certain Sacrifice (a student film that only got released because she became MADONNA a few years after it was shot). Watching that might have been the longest hour of my life.

Same disc, I should say, rather than same edition. No hardcase with this one.

That hardcase and slipcover edition is sold out, but the same edition is available with a different slipcover still.

No, that's the Vinegar Syndrome 4K

Following on from yesterday, two more of what I'd consider the very best releases on the 4k format

Cameron's opinion is easy to influence. I believe he called Genisys the best Terminator movie pre-release.

Dark Fate isn't bad. It has some nice ideas but (maybe controversial) I think it's better before Arnie and Linda Hamilton arrive.

Rise of the Machines is still BY FAR the best Terminator 3

Nobody wants this. I promise you. There's a reason I post very few pictures of my face (birthday selfie is usually all I do each year, just to track the continuing decline for posterity)

A great film, and, as far as I've seen, one of the two best 4k discs yet released.

Or worse.

Genisys is a complete clusterfuck. A collection of terrible ideas, tin-eared writing, hilarious miscasting and expressionless performances. Do not pass go, skip directly to Dark Fate.

Madonna - I Feel So Free (Official Visualizer)
Madonna - I Feel So Free (Official Visualizer) YouTube video by Madonna

DO NOT WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVE PHOTOSENSITIVE EPILEPSY.

As a Madonna fan, easily the best thing I've heard from her in decades. It sounds like she's finally stopped chasing what she thinks is the latest cool thing, which has hobbled her since Hard Candy. This is a pure throwback, and it's great.

2025: Ranked A rough ranking of the (limited) 2025 releases I saw. I'll continue adding to this into next year, hoping to find at least one film I really want to go to bat for. Features only.

Added 3 more releases to my 2025 ranking. At 88 titles, this list is yet untroubled by anything over a 4/5 rating.

A ★★ review of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (2025) Strong performances, as expected, from Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but there's really nothing else to recommend this workmanlike remake. It's also the latest iteration of my most hated t...

I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and she and Maika Monroe are both good here but... why?

A ★★ review of The Fantastic 4: First Steps (2025) OBVIOUSLY this is the 'best' iteration of Fantastic 4 to date, and yet it's still not great, and I still don't know that I'd choose to watch it over the 'unavailable' Corman produced version, because ...

Well, this certainly does exist.

This hard box is from the br edition, but I put the 4k in it. Probably on par with The Beyond for me as the best of the Gates of Hell trilogy.

No masterpiece, but sometimes it's okay to make the EXACT movie people would expect.

Olivia Rodrigo - drop dead (Official Music Video)
Olivia Rodrigo - drop dead (Official Music Video) YouTube video by OliviaRodrigoVEVO

New Olivia Rodrigo is basically what you'd expect: solid 90s throwback, but it points an interesting way for the album, which seems like it won't be a pure breakup record but maybe charting a whole relationship from this starting point.

Never seen this, but 12.5p shrinkwrapped as a charity shop find seemed like a good deal.
