*painfully awkward reminder that my book would make the perfect Christmas gift for any fans of teenage hedonism*

Same! Wish I could add something more interesting to say but I’m still in the process of repeat listening.
Better yet, do the ironing. I’d rather clean ten toilets than stand at an ironing board for an hour.
I particularly like the intro to Loud Love. That song and Hands All Over are my favourites from that album. But several other tracks are phenomenal. Their guitar work is virtuosic. Such good bass parts too.
AC Acoustics sounds familiar. Recently discovered you can read archive issues of The List online: perfect for revisiting which bands were playing!
Cool!
I love that Schweppes could have such a techno style — was that a video/tv ad?
Amazed by the care and attention put into this list. Will enjoy listening to the songs. Is the 100 like a chart, where 1 is your favourite?
I wanted to love this but I thought at first the words were those in the text that featured once or twice — but the website says the anti-cloud is words that are common to English but which don’t feature in the user’s selected text. Define common. Define English language. (Rhetorical Q.)
(I’m annoyed that I misused the semi-colon in my first post in this thread: I realised after the fact that Bluesky doesn’t let you edit your posts. Apologies for that bad semi-colon.)
Their first album bears a number of influences, mostly from the kosmiche canon—Faust, Neu!— but certain songs have a Glasgow-specific heavy rain of guitars that in retrospect sounds like a precursor to Mogwai.
But what makes Telstar Ponies special for me is Rachel Devine’s vocals. An almost nonchalant attitude outlines her style, but the heart of her vocal is a confessional honesty in her tone and her spoken-word performance draws the listener in as if you are an intimate friend.
Another now-famous member is David Keenan, who, after Telstar Ponies, wrote music criticism for the inimitable and excellent Wire magazine, and more recently has written several novels.
Obscure they might have been as a band, but Brendan O’Hare joined then after leaving Teenage Fanclub. He would shortly after join Mogwai for their debut album Young Team.
Telstar Ponies were an obscure Glasgow band in the mid 1990s; and I discovered them for myself buying a secondhand CD in York of a Fire Records compilation. Here is a beautiful if but gothic-tinged Christmas lament from them: tidal.com/track/273003...
The Galloverse features in the photo. Now, that was a special album launch. Bill Drummond from the KLF. In a random old man’s pub in Edinburgh. The best album launch experience ever. 💖

Tidal pays artists more than Spotify does. And it’s better audio quality than Spotify. And less evil.
My profile header image is a jpg I made to refer to Michael Donaghy’s poem about blossoms in reverse. A beautiful but brutal poem.
I’ve bought a lot of vinyl this year but haven’t been able to play it because my music setup isn’t sorted at home. It’s going to be fixed for 2025. I love music as much as literature. So, I’ll post pics of the vinyl I’ve bought — give me an hour ;-)
@lucilovecraft.bsky.social see what you think! Also @optimo-espacio.bsky.social 😘
It begins with an obscure Soundgarden song and ends with a very commercial Eddie Murphy hit from the 1980s. Sandwiched you’ll find pure electroclash from 2000 to 2023.
Usually, my music tastes are too bizarre to share. But I’ve made a very ridiculous electroclash playlist for myself for secret reasons, and I think some of you might enjoy it: tidal.com/playlist/84b...
