VCF East – Vintage Computer Federation

Getting psyched for #VCFEast this weekend. I will be there signing and selling books—while ogling all the CRTs and blinkenlights, of course. Come stop by! Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, 2026, at the InfoAge Science Museum in Wall, NJ, right by the Jersey Shore: vcfed.org/events/vinta...

I can't wait for vibe root canals

Ha--that's hilarious! That makes sense though, given the proliferation of cat+pet bird videos out there. One of my cats doesn't care except to watch them fly past the window, while the other is ready to jump through the glass the moment she sees one.

Meanwhile, the birds: "Agghghhh! Don't eat us!"

I was definitely lucky that we had one. But the XL was a much better deal, thanks to Tramiel (ha, for starting the price war, hopping to Atari, and then continuing it)

Thanks! Even now I'm sweating the details. Like I had an line about how Palm's handwriting recognition was kind of a cheat (not in those words); you wrote in an area below the screen, and in Grafitti. It was beside the point, so we cut it, but it wasn't flat-out technically better than the Newton.

I had a lot of fun with this, in case it's not obvious

A funny 1985 depiction about computing in 2029, a woman in a white suit and a metallic teal bob haircut is laughing and shooting colorful rays out of a CD and a diskette into three CRT monitors on a wooden table; a calendar on the wall says it’s March 1st, 2029
