Finally learning more about @prereview.bsky.social @neurosarda.bsky.social 's @hhmi.org important work at #metascience2025

Starting with an equity lens: #PeerReview is inequitable/unsustainable. Reviewer pool is small, homogeneous, and have never received formal training.

Looking forward to facilitating @prereview.bsky.social 2h Open Reviewers workshop with @vanessafairhurst.bsky.social tomorrow as part of #SIPS2025 online sessions. Together we will explore how systems of oppression manifests in peer review and what we can do about it.

The opportunity to deepen connections and collaborate with community members is what makes my job the best!

This year we are fortunate once again to be joined by 24 individuals who put community first and share our vision for a more equitable and open scholarly peer review system! Thank you!

As a scientist yes, I stand up for the right to openly access, produce and disseminate knowledge. But that’s not enough. Standing up for science alone feels like a privilege of the elite. And that isn’t what’s going to sink the ship or save us from drowning with it.

What I wish everyone were pouring all our indignation towards is the rapid uprise of an authoritarian government that is and will continue to take everyone’s but the richest of the rich’s rights away.

What I wish everyone—not just scientists and science enthusiasts—were standing up for is the dignity of human beings, the right to exist and make the best choices for ourselves and our children regardless of who we are.

Yes. This administration’s made clear attacks to “science” that are worth rallying for. But, it has done that in the context of a much bigger plan to further concentrate power in the hands of the highest top, leaving everyone behind, drowning in mud—with those who were barely afloat drawing faster.

I was set to go to Salem today & join the 10s of 1000s of people rallying to #standupforscience. My son got sick, so it was a no go.

As I play with my snotty toddler, I can’t help to think about the fact that what we should be standing up for is freedom, democracy, the right to exist in dignity.

2025 has already proven to be a year of difficult transitions and devastating decisions.

We at PREreview stand firm in our commitment to building towards a present and future in which knowledge flows freely and equitably, unbound by systemic barriers or entrenched hierarchies.

Picture of a black computer on a wooden table with the waiting room zoom window open in the center-written in it is the word Welcome! on top of a picture of the ocean waves. Next to the computer is a tea mug with “Sitting by the campfire” written on it and below the computer are an orange pen and the printed copy of my YearCompass booklet.

I just concluded my YearCompass guided by 🌟 @tararobertson.bsky.social. For the 1st time in weeks I felt hopeful; I missed that feeling. 2024 was hard. I know 2025 won’t be a breeze either. But I also know that I’m determined to heal, get my hope back and deepen my roots in community. Thanks Tara!

Mike, you are too kind, thank you! I haven’t been able to bring myself to post much but I plan for a slow and intentional come back to social media in 2025.

A white flowchart titled "We’re celebrating 360° feedback on a preprint!!" in black text, with subtitle "And here’s how they did it (and how you can do it too!)" in smaller, italicized black text underneath. Next to the title and subtitle are two red party poppers with star-shaped confetti exploding. The flowchart, from left-to-right, has three sets of images and text. The first set is labeled "Step One (1):" in bold white text against an elongated, red oval. Underneath is an image of a scientific preprint article. Underneath that image is is the text "Authors post a preprint on bioRxiv" in black, with the text "doi.org/10.1101/2023.11.02.564871" in white against a black rectangular background. There is a white arrow pointing right against a black circular background next to the text pointing to the second set of images and text. The second set is labeled "Step Two (2):" in bold white text against an elongated, red oval. Underneath is an image of a scientific preprint article review. Underneath that image is is the text "A community reviewer writes a review of the preprint and shares it openly on PREreview.org" in black, with the text "10.5281/zenodo.11444773" in white against a black rectangular background. There is a white arrow pointing right against a black circular background next to the text pointing to the third set of images and text. The third set is labeled "Step Three (3):" in bold white text against an elongated, red oval. Underneath is an image of a scientific preprint article comment. Underneath that image is is the text "A preprint author responds to the review and shares it openly on PREreview.org" in black, with the text "10.5281/zenodo.14511730" in white against a black rectangular background.

¡Hello world! I have been recovering from social media intoxication for a while and I now feel half sure I may be ready to rebuild a community over here.

Stuff I care about: justice, equity, knowledge, change, reciprocity, the planet. Anyone here can recommend folks/orgs to follow? Thanks!
