Cup game today, so getting the post-match food in order for ourselves and our opponents.

They say the first bite is with the eye.

Trees in the road as we make our way to todayโ€™s charity tournament in 50mph winds. Weโ€™ve been promised a cake stall. Thoughts and prayers to whoeverโ€™s putting the gazebo up.

We foresee no issues with using a van with no tow-bar to move an immobilised tractor from a damp football pitch but our opposition are insistent we try

To be fair we very seldom use the the middle of the pitch so maybe it wonโ€™t be a problem

Possibly a slight delay to kick-off as the ground staff appear to have left a tractor in the middle of the pitch.

Kind of wish we were joking.

The referee has had to leave in a hurry at the final whistle because heโ€™s off to see Coldplay. Despite this his decisions today have been nothing short of exemplary.

The final score is, in many ways, irrelevant. We do concede some cracking free-kicks though.

Reports reaching us of a five-nil half time deficit. Not ideal but we often thrive on adversity.

26 minutes gone. Helpfully yr correspondent is some 55 miles away from pitchside but in the absence of any concrete information letโ€™s assume weโ€™ve raced into a six or seven goal lead ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’š GAMEDAY ๐Ÿ’š

Opening day. Bleary-eyed badgers, grudgingly waking from their summer hibernation, rise and sniff the air. A trip west(?) to play East(?) Oxford. Another season in Division 3 beckons, with all the Streety nonsense that entails. Love. Peace. Freedom.

Team news to follow ๐Ÿ’š

A heavily-edited screengrab from the seminal computer game Championship Manager 1997-98. The background image shows Republic Of Ireland international John Aldridge flicking the V's at an unnamed FIFA official while mid-breakdown during a very hot football match at the 1994 World Cup. The overlaid text asks the player if they are wanting to manage Union Street, an extravagantly unsuccessful amateru football club based in Oxford.

TOMORROW our season begins, and it's entirely possible we've gone overboard with the match graphics. JOIN US on our adventures as we dedicate ourselves to the overthrow of evil forces/avoiding relegation from the Oxfordshire Senior League Division Three.

WANTED: grassroots football teams with good vibes and a social conscience to connect with and (who knows) maybe play friendlies and stuff with. Any ages/abilities/genders welcome. If you know of such a team with a presence on Bluesky, please do send them Union Street's way ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ’š

Todayโ€™s friendly is with our pals at Oxford Phoenix.

Phoenix are dedicated to creating a safe space for young refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, & USFC are proud to have helped support them on their journey to becoming one of the first refugee-based clubs to be admitted to the FA pyramid ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก
