Once-off, temporary and short term measures are insufficient to address poverty.
We have the resources to progressively reduce and ultimately eliminate poverty.
Is there the political will?

And 70,000 Afghans, and more than 500,000 others from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti all of whom entered the US legally.

This is profoundly wrong.

Don't Hesitate, by Mary Oliver.

If You suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don't hesitate. Give in to it. It. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that's often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

I turned away from drinking in the firehose of bad news last night to take my telescope out to a dark clearing in the forest. It was a bit cold, 4 degrees F, but stars shined bright overhead.🔭🧪
