just finished #20: The Canceling of the American Mind by Greg Lukinaoff + Rikki Schlott

I found it very thought-provoking, it definitely challenged my existing beliefs + assumptions. Would highly recommend.

Sad that I'm almost at the end of my @jortsthecat.bsky.social May Day to May Day calendar 💔

You also don’t need to assume your personal identity needs to be part of your work. For example maybe you’re scared shitless about your mom’s immigration status, but you’re a labor organizer.

It’s ok to focus on labor, and you don’t have to be the immigration poster child while you’re doing that

a beautiful tortoiseshell cat has one paw extended as she rests on the back of a sofa. she looks alert, determined and thoughtful

There are a lot of bad things happening all at once, and it’s overwhelming to think about how to meet moments like this.

Jean says to focus on 1 or 2 things that you care about, understand fairly well, and are either local or involve a topic where you’re likely to have influence and find community

I really would like to subscribe to @theatlantic.com + would have already, but it's frustrating that they only allow you to pay upfront for the entire year rather than monthly, because I can't really afford to front $80 😕 I feel like they're probably losing out on subscribers doing it that way?

I lost my best buddy yesterday. Jackson was a senior diabetic long-term foster + we got to spend five and a half years together. I love him so much + am heartbroken. But he lived a long life, he was likely 15+

Once I turned to my priest and said: "Truly, no-one has ever suffered like I suffer."

And she stopped and looked me straight in the eye and went: "Jay, it is quite literally Good Friday today."

And I said "ah, but Jesus didn't suffer LIKE I suffer. He never had to reply to a single email!"

heard! totally agree w/ that. i think i am just forever mad about how bad she fucked us over that i immediately go to that lol.

That’s a completely valid point but i don’t mean to make that comparison so much as to muse about balancing gratitude for their dedication and influence with the dread of knowing they’ll leave a huge void.

The stakes aren’t the same but Bernie is pretty singular as a voice of reason with integrity

Disappearing people without any due process is fascism — full stop. I’m sick to my stomach and we all should be.

i mean, bernie will retire and be replaced by another dem. him not retiring isn't standing in the way of anything, or fucking over his entire legacy. RBG being too proud to retire during an admin where she could be safely replaced by a like-minded judge has fucked us over for *generations*

like maybe working self checkout isn't the right place for you omg

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

i needed help at the self checkout + the woman helping me had very pretty but very long acrylics....so they were interfering w the touch screen so she had to tap everything like 20+ times to try to get it to recognize it before finally giving up + sending me to a regular register...

Bodega cats don't push raw milk and beef tallow. They don't give children vitamin A poisoning or measles.

Leave the bodega homies alone.

“Several Defense Department officials expressed shock that Hegseth had put American war plans into a commercial chat group. They said that having this type of conversation in a Signal chat group itself could be a violation of the Espionage Act, a law covering the handling of sensitive information.”

The job of Democrats is so clear right now: It's to do everything possible in the next 48 hours to keep the Atlantic story front-burner and make people understand the issues and the stakes. It couldn't be a simpler test of who gets it and who doesn't.
