Union Proud! Local 1624 members proudly serve our community. Way to go Kathy Uhrig!
The FY25-26 COA budget is passed — and the TRE is officially headed to Austin voters.
AFSCME 1624 helped secure major wins for City workers and our community.
Now, we turn to the next fight — winning the TRE! When workers rise, Austin rises with us.
AFSCME 1624 members showed up strong today at Austin City Hall — standing shoulder to shoulder for higher wages, job protections, and the services our community counts on. @afscme.bsky.social
💚 AFSCME 1624 joined together at City Hall today for a strong TRE, fair wages, and a commitment to the services & jobs that keep Austin running. When we invest in city workers, we build strong communities. @afscme.bsky.social #afscmestrong #cityofaustin #afscme
@afscme 1624 member B. Ray—an Austin Energy electrical supervisor—was hit hard by flooding in Liberty Hill on July 5. In minutes, 4ft of water took over his home. He, his wife, and kids were rescued, but his home suffered damage.
We visited him today—he’s ok, cleaning up, and in good spirits.
As Texans recover from the recent floods, we have compiled a list of resources for affected counties, available to both union members and the general public.

🌈✊ AFSCME 1624 showed up proud at today’s SEEN Pride Luncheon! When we fight for equality, we fight for all workers — because dignity on the job includes being seen, valued, and respected. #PrideMonth #AFSCMEStrong #AustinTX #cityofaustin
Austin city workers deserve better.
This tight budget year is made worse by state and federal cuts—like slashing over a third of Austin Public Health’s grant funding.
Last night, @afscme1624.bsky.social called for raises so staff can live where they serve. More town halls soon—stay tuned.
City workers spoke out on pay, staffing & frontline conditions—and Council listened. Powerful night of unity, truth, and action. The Green Machine rolls on. 💚

Big thanks to every @afscme.bsky.social 1624 member who showed up & spoke out at Travis County Employee Speak Out last night.
It takes courage to advocate — and you did it with power & purpose. Your voices are building a raise that lifts everyone. #AFSCMEStrong #UnionStrong
VICTORY: The Refugee Clinic stays open (for now).
AFSCME 1624 members stood up, spoke out, and won a lifeline (until Sept. 30)
Workers keep their jobs. Refugees keep their care.
This is what union power looks like.

Federal cuts to public health funding are putting us all at risk!
That’s why @afscme1624.bsky.social and #AustinPublicHealth employees are calling on the City to step up and take care of our frontline workers & community! #ATX #StopTheCuts
Amid $22 Million in Trump-Fueled Federal Cuts, AFSCME Local 1624 Stands Up to Defend Austin Public Health
@afscme.bsky.social
Austin is a union town, and my office is proud to be a union office.
That’s why I was happy to sit down with Carol Guthrie from @afscme1624.bsky.social, representing local government workers, to talk about how we can better support the people who keep our city running.
Scenes from our Writers for Workers postcard party! @afscme 1624 members + @texasaflcio Ruth Ellinger Labor Academy union friends pitching in to spread the word. Solidarity in action! #unionstrong #afscme #afscmestrong

Trump is trying to silence the labor movement, but we’re not going anywhere.
Texas union members stand shoulder to shoulder with federal employees against this fraudster. We are rising up, organizing, and ready to defend our brothers and sisters — whatever it takes.
Trump’s “DESTROY ALL LABOR UNIONS” executive order from last night must be stopped, rescinded, and buried deep in the ground.
Even if a judge blocks it temporarily, we must not stop fighting it with full force until it is gone for good.
President Trump’s attempt to strip federal workers of the right to collectively bargain is blatant retribution. AFSCME’s 1.4 million members - including thousands of federal workers - are prepared to fight to protect federal workers’ voice on the job. www.afscme.org/press/releas...
Screenshot of the AFL-CIO's statement condemning the Trump administration's executive order stripping collective bargaining and union rights from workers across the federal government.
Stripping collective bargaining and union rights from workers across the federal government is the very definition of union busting — and a blatant attempt to silence us.
We will fight this outrageous attack on our members with every fiber of our collective being.
Standing room only tonight at @afscme1624.bsky.social!
Over a dozen new members here for their first meeting, too.
Because we got organized, we got the Trump administration to rescind their freeze on federal funding!
But make no mistake – our fight isn't over.
We know they're going to try again, and we have to be ready.
BREAKING: Two unions with over two million government workers are suing the Trump admin over illegal executive orders.
AFSCME and AFGE assert that Trump illegally exceeded his authority by unilaterally trying to roll back a regulation that protects civil servants.
A union-busting billionaire is bullying Congress into a government shutdown that will force thousands of hardworking federal employees — including nearly 40,000 here in Texas — to go without pay just before the holidays.
Elon Musk will leap at any chance to screw over workers.
Victory for Working Families!
Congrats to Mike Siegel, our union-endorsed candidate, on his hard-fought win in District 7! We’re excited to work with Mike to fight for fair wages, better working conditions, and a city that puts workers and families first. 💚
