Dee Teal on cultural algorithms, belonging and bias A common theme in this podcast is the way that open source brings people together and it’s those communities that become far more powerful than the software that we initially got into. In this episode, I sit down with my friend Dee Teal, a Melbourne-based project manager, delivery leader and long time WordPress community member […]

I sat down with @thewebprincess.bsky.social to talk cultural algorithms, implicit bias, WP Includes, and why our communities thrive when we stop guarding our corner of the pie.

I remember that feeling. I did it going from New Zealand to Australia. But I held onto a comment that someone once made to me “it’s amazing how much stuff we consider important to as Westerners, always way more than we actually need” you figure it out. And the weight off is SO worth it. 😚

When my endocrinologist told me to adjust my carbs down a bit and spread my food out in a grazing pattern on Mounjaro, I laughed at her. I said “that’s how I eat already”. She returned with “but you won’t want to” and I didn’t believe her because I couldn’t imagine my brain working any other way.

A small grey bird sits squinting in a eucalyptus tree. He looks a bit like a Chinese grandfather all wise and knowing. He could be part of the tree he’s well camouflaged.

The unequivocal Best Bird got its flowers this year. Congrats to the Tawny Frogmouth for winning bird of the year. I snapped this one in Tasmania some years ago. I love them so much.

@matthew.posts.pics took my pic! What a great privilege to speak in Canada about cross cultural work and uncovering hidden cultural algorithms that drive our teams. Thanks to those who attended :) #wceh2025 @wordcampcanada.bsky.social

I love the mixed dimensions in the description. A meter. A foot. Neither matters when the message is of such import.

"This distribution reflects the fundamental structure of English vocabulary, with nouns being essential for naming things, verbs for actions, adjectives for descriptions, and adverbs being more specialized modifiers.

Just drove past a Liberal Party campaign truck - “get Australia back on track” did l read that right? From a mob who was in office for nearly a decade and gave us what, nine deficits and the worst budget in living memory 2014, that it has its own Wikipedia page? Back on track my tit.
