Exciting!! We may need to discuss it when we read it. πŸ‘€

I like what I’m hearing! Happy you liked it. On the surface, this book seems to check all of my boxes. Kind of nervous to read it because of how much I’m hyping it up in my own head.

The image shows the summary inside the dust jacket of the book. The text reads as follows:

"WHEN MY VIOLENCE SUBSIDES, WE WILL HAVE NOTHING, AND BE CHAMPIONS."
Ichorite is progress. More durable and malleable than steel, ichorite is the lifeblood of a dawning industrial revolution. Yann I. Chauncey owns the sole means of manufacturing this valuable metal, but his workers are on strike. They demand Chauncey research the hallucinatory illness befalling them. Marney Honeycutt, a luster-touched child worker, stands proud at the picket line with her best friend and family. That's when Chauncey sends in the guns.
Only Marney survives the massacre.
She vows bloody vengeance.
A decade later, Marney is the nation's most notorious highwayman, and Chauncey's daughter seeks an opportune marriage. Marney's rage and the ghosts of her past will drive her to masquerade as an aristocrat, outmaneuver powerful suitors, and win the heart of his daughter, so Marney can finally corner Chauncey and satisfy her need for revenge. But war ferments in the north, and deeper grudges are surfacing...
"A glorious, breakneck, dyke revenge story."
-Em X. Liu
"A queer, bloody love letter to rebellion."
β€”Nino Cipri

Has anyone read Metal from Heaven by August Clarke? I impulse ordered it as soon as I heard about it.

A sapphic revenge story? Political fantasy? For fans of Gideon the Ninth? Blurbed by Nino Cipri (among many others)?? Why haven’t I seen people talking about this?

No book has ever made me seriously consider shelling out hundreds of dollars for an out-of-print special edition quite like The Spear Cuts Through Water. πŸ₯²

I’m not generally a collector of special editions, but please SOMEONE publish another run of this book in hardcover. 😭

Y’all, I think chapter 27 of The Sword of Kaigen, The Duel, might be my favourite chapter of any book ever? And that’s coming from a reader who struggles with fight scenes. So brilliantly and beautifully executed. πŸ₯Ή

tip for posting alt text.

there's a setting under accessibility that won't let you hit 'post' until you've added alt text

I looked at some of the Tome App’s stuff… it’s def giving cis/straight/white fantasy, considering almost every post they made on insta or tt heavily features ACOTAR and 4th wing.

I’ll be watching what happens but unless a lot of my diverse reading community joins I’ll pass.
