My 4/20 story is from a judge I clerked for.
Once he had a case where the defense attorney certified a drug dealer as an expert witness on drugs in order to rebut the testimony of a police officer on the smell of marijuana. Basically like “he couldn’t have smelled that strain from way over there.”
There are so many surveillance abuses going all the way back to the Founding that people don’t know. One of the earliest were colonial New York’s ”lantern laws” requiring Black people walking at night to carry a lantern “so they could be plainly seen” unless they were accompanied by a white person.
“Now with 3% more capacity that other similar journals!”
And Kushner is acting under color of law so he has many of the legal responsibilities of a federal employee with none of the protections.
Kushner thinks he’s clever by not being a fed employee so he can cut deals.
What he’s actually doing is rejecting the ability to invoke sovereign or qualified immunity, Westfall Act, executive privilege, intracorporate conspiracy doctrine, and other legal protections.
The shields are down.
The Palantir statement here is a dogwhistle for homophobia and transphobia.
The Paperwork Reduction Act would like a word with the Secretary.
Rent’s too damn high
Oh I’ve lived here for 15 years and didn’t realize that circle was on an island!
Is the land in that circle federal or owned by Virginia?
this is just a warmed over david duke speech from 1990
Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement

—priority task for me, so I’m not going to invest hours of my, or even an assistant’s, time to record these cites. If Claude records 80% of them in 3 minutes, that’s worth it bc the alternative is I’d have zero.
No, I’m not confident it has high precision; it probably messes up some of them. But for this purpose I don’t actually care. I want to get the gist of the cites, to give me a lead for future research. Which will have to be manual anyway, so I’ll find the missing ones then. And it’s a low—
Now now, they can also use it to wipe their nose on the First Amendment.
Really bad that you just immediately get responses like this on here when you post about arson attacks on Jewish organizations!
I find Claude very helpful for organizing data. I read a paper and wanted to save its citations for easy future use. I put the paper in Claude and it quickly spits out a neatly organized spreadsheet with all the cites and thoughtful tags. Which I can add to over time to build a reference library.
My uninformed guess would be the insurance companies know they can invoke force majeure and not have to pay, bc it’s a war zone, so they don’t have to vocally object.

Re: nostalgia for VHS tapes and other analog media, I saw someone say like "a VHS tape never sold my information to a nazi" and yes that's true! But the reason it's true is actually because Congress passed a law in 1988 specifically making it illegal for video stores to sell your rental history
Tweet from Pete Hegseth: “The @USNavy is correct. More FAKE NEWS from the Pharisee Press. My team confirmed the logistics stats for the Lincoln & Tripoli. Both have 30+ days of Class I supplies (food) on board. NavCent monitors this everyday, for every ship. Our sailors deserve — and receive — the best.”
The US Secretary of Defense is going full mask-off antisemite. “Pharisee Press” is the modern equivalent of the German Lügenpresse.

They also find that anti-Israel sentiment is higher among young people than older demographics, increases with education, and correlates with political beliefs. Young liberals are much more likely to be anti-Israel than young conservatives. However, antisemites are also likely to be anti-Israel.
Chart breaking down antisemitism views among different demographics of young people.
Breaking down the data on antisemitism in young people, the researchers find that the rise is driven almost entirely by conservatives and that young liberals have antisemitism rates matching the national average. Moreover, young men are significantly more antisemitic than young women.
Chart on antisemitic sentiment across various demographics.
The topline chart shows that antisemitism is highest among young people and declines with age; Boomers are the least antisemitic. It also shows higher antisemitism rates among people of color than white people.
Valuable quantitative data here on young people and antisemitism. They find young people (<35) are more antisemitic than older demos, but this is driven almost entirely by young conservatives (esp. men). Young liberals are less antisemitic than almost every demo split except Boomers. Charts below.
