Yarn bombing is where knitted or crocheted yarn—rather than paint—adorns public objects like poles, and benches. Also known as "guerrilla knitting,", it is a street art originally started by women #Womensart

Photo of a man standing in a messy studio withe windows behind him. He is wearing dark clothing and is holding his arms up, making the horned hand gesture. His head is covered by a knitted octopus, mostly bright orange with green, yellow and orange tentacles, and big black eyes .

Here's my brother being eaten by knitted octopus. Also not bothered.

I knitted 42 mobius strip headbands while recovering from surgery. I was quite pleased to not be recaulking anything! Hope you can find a slow pastime.

To me the worst time in US was 1968, when they were drafting my friends to face death in 'Nam...for no reason! But ICE is a new low. Masked, nameless, secret police invading anti-Trump cities. Hard to believe it's real. It can't go on.

Social media slow down.

I'm changing the way i use social media. It's a notice board, not a diary. I will not posting here or Instagram & Mastodon unless I have news. New work, new classes, exhibitions or similar updates will be posted but that's all.

My first thought was 64 because the box is (probably) a square.

Slightly angled photo from above two small tables with beginners working at simple knitting machines. The tables are facing each other and you can see the hands of each student working on their projects.

That's the first beginners machine knitting workshop of 2026 done. I was very impressed with the finished neckwamers. I hope both students will be dusting off and setting up their home machines soon.

Fancy having a go, too?

Thank you - I am a bit better. Certainly well enough to teach at the weekend. The new work might take a while though.

A small little bit of both advice and a plea for using Bluesky.

This platform doesn't have an algorithm for content.

If your default response to seeing something cool is to hit like, take a second to hit the Repost button too.

Especially if it's a cool indie product, a show, some art, whatever.

After a holiday season dominated by illness (mine and other people's) and admin, I'm looking forward to getting back into the studio to continue exploring the knitting potential of tile agar patterns in Conway's Game of Life.

Oh yes, thank you! I've been aiming to attend one since I first heard about Bridges in 2000. Cost and timing are prohibitive but I think i might finally get to this year's event in Ireland.

Me too!
I finally feel like I might actually be able to attend this time.

KNOT UNKNOT: Botanic Mathematica A textile taxonomy of mathematical plant forms. Botanica Mathematica is a collaboration between myself and Dr Julia Collins with assistance from Jo McRae and many, many knitters around the world. Jul...

Today's exchange of posts with @noneucldreamer.bsky.social got me thinking about Botanica Mathematica. This installation explores taxonomy and mathematical growth patterns using knitted forms.

I'd love to see it exhibited again. Any suggestions?

Algorithmic Botany: Publications

Thank you. Our inspiration was a book - The Algorithmic Beauty of Plants. www.algorithmicbotany.org/papers/#abop

For Botanica Mathematica we mostly looked a branching patterns and taxonomy but there's so much more to explore.
