Went for my second walkthrough before signing the lease and get measurements and I'M GLAD I DID -- a horribly foul odor like rancid buttered popcorn was permeating the apartment. Thought it was the (closed) restaurant downstairs...no. Dried out p-traps which have been resolved...time to sign. 😮💨

So the building I’m moving into was built in the 1820’s and where my apartment unit is was allegedly where a man was tortured and shackled by free masons and his ghost is said to haunt it. Which is so cute and fun I love it.

I’ve been having a lot of anxiety lately about life. And death. I feel most people deal with existential feelings by finding spirituality but I find myself drawn to the sensory, human, and tangible parts of life. Like food. Been getting back into cooking real food and recipes again. It feels good.

It doesn’t help I filed my taxes in January and got my IL and Federal refunds at the end of February but still no movement on NYS.
Move in costs are so stressful. Anyone else precariously broke when moving?? Between the last apartment holding a full months rent, needing 2 months to move in, plus movers…yeesh.
One thing Chicago has right was only allowing landlords to charge a move in fee plus first months rent.
Also the unit I like is above a restaurant dining room which was wasn’t fully open yet so I want to get a sense for the noise.
The units have already dropped 150-300$ in price already and have been in the market for ~6 months so i may have some leverage? Idk. I’ve never been assertive before 🤪

Tbf they did a bait and switch on one and then said all units had in-unit when its shared and paid. Their units down the street (larger, with unit) are the same price or cheaper.
This building is just 215 years old and cooler.

I love the way my podcast looks on video...but aint nobody gonna watch an hour of my yapping. My format caters to audio (as a podcast should) though the seeing historic documents and photographs is always great. I just wish there wasn't such a focus on vertical.
Dropped a new episode of the podcast today...one of the more fun cases I got to cover. Not sure how much longer I can sustain this output but I'm having fun and that's really all that matters!
