I getcha there like you can technically still "play" the game but you're not getting far

The Egg Carrier lock if you get into Sky Deck too quickly comes to mind often. But like yeah you're not getting out of there

But then like if the game crashes you can just reboot it? Unless it's consistently crashing at the same spot I suppose. Just seems strange that they would bother using another term for that if there wasn't another implication somewhere

Unless I'm mistaken on definitions I feel like the term softlock is being used too often when people actually mean hardlock?

Ok so maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

A softlock in a game means you're stuck in the game but a reset will usually fix this and you can keep your save file

A hardlock is when you've done something in the game that totally prevents you from progressing so your save file cannot be used
