well, the latest order in response to the #OCLC motion for default judgement is interesting in that it states that "worldcat . org and its data is the subject matter of federal copyright law".

#OCLC has refiled its motion for default judgment against Anna's Archive: www.courtlistener.com/docket/68157923/57/oclc-...
The Supreme Court of Ohio has declined to answer the certified questions of state law identified in #OCLC v. Anna's Archive, et al.
for reference, those questions were: 1) What level of knowledge of browsewrap terms must a website user have for those terms to be enforceable against the website […]

wondering who else knows about this week's ~10% RIF at #OCLC
The plaintiff in #OCLC v. Anna’s Archive filed their merit brief with the SC Ohio on the certified question of state law. In addition, BISG has filed an amicus brief. www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/Clerk/ecms/

i'm raising funds through the Pride Deadlift Party again this year. this year's beneficiaries are UTOPIA Washington, Queer the Land, and the UNRWA USA Committee. my goal PR is 315 lbs. and my fundraising goal is $945. help me get there […]
@JMarkOckerbloom technically, this was only made manifest through docket #s 51 & 52, as the judge asked for a motion to dismiss to be refiled.
OCLC's complaint in its latest suit over records from Worldcat, this one against Baker & Taylor, makes it clear they intend Worldcat to be a monopoly ("*the* authoritative source of bibliographic records for libraries and academic institutions", emphasis mine), not limited to MARC records (not […]
[question re: ukpol, academia/conferences, systematic transmisia]
i know that i'm starting to see folks push back on US-hosted conferences given concerns about safety. given the recent UK supreme court ruling on the legal status of trans women, has there been any discussion about how this will […]
Call for submissions - breath piece I am a trans composer and poet working on a sound poetry/installation piece for an upcoming gallery show. For source material, I am looking for recordings of the sound of trans people breathing audibly in response to a prompt. Instructions • Deadtine: May 1, 2025 11:59 PM Pacific Time. • Make an unprocessed recording following the prompt below. A voice memo on your phone is fine. • Recordings should be no more than 30 seconds and in MP3, M4A, WAV, or CAF format. • E-mail a copy of the recording to breathe@imprecision.art. In your e-mail, include the following: 1. If and how you would like to be credited (any name or anonymously is fine). 2. A quick acknowledgement that you're 18 years of age or older, and that you're OK with me using this recording for this project (see "What Will Happen" below).
Prompt 1. Think of a time another trans person made you feel trans joy. 2. Start recording. 3. Inhale audibly, as you if breathed in that bliss when you felt it. 4. Exhale audibly, as if you were sharing your breath with someone else to spread that exuberance. 5. Let that breath become a sound that radiates the JOy. 6. Stop recording. 7. Thank the person who made you feel that joy.
What Will Happen • I will be editing and processing these recordings into a larger set of audio tracks. Any spoken words will be removed, but non-verbal vocalizations might be kept. • An interactive installation that leverages these audio tracks will be installed in a gallery group show at The Factory in Seattle, Washington that opens on June 12, 2025. • I cannot guarantee I will use all received recordings in the final piece. • The audio tracks will be recorded onto physical media with limited copies (25 or less) as part of this process. The physical media will be available for purchase at the gallery and through my Bandcamp site. • Individuals will only be credited as they prefer. If you wish to remain anonymous you may do so. Credit and/or name changes are welcome for future performance/ recording iterations. • Permission for continued use in future settings or installations may be revoked upon request. • The original submitted recordings will be deleted after the gallery show closes.
Call for submissions - breath piece (deadline May 1, 2025 @ 11:59 PDT). tldr: I'm a trans composer and poet looking for recordings of the sound of trans people breathing audibly in response to a prompt for use in a sound art installation. More details at […]

i'll admit, i didn't see this coming
the institute of museum and library services funded the two grants i had the most instrumental role in writing. one of these, at the time, was the largest single award ever made by IMLS. i am not surprised that DOGE is coming to scrap it for parts, but i'm still pretty upset about it […]
well, @thatandromeda 's statement that "all of the cringe of your old code is evidence of the way you’ve grown" is my takeaway from #c4l25
a diagram of a complex system of assembly and delegates for worker and library control.
when the streams cross: during @platypus 's #c4l25 keynote i came across this possible alternative system for combining community and worker control from Librarians for Social Change #4: blogs.brighton.ac.uk/radicalpress/2017/03/25/...
the photos that @platypus is using in her #c4l25 are so wonderful. i'm old enough that they are invoking a bit of nostalgia

anyway. the python dvuploader client for dataverse now supports directory recursion via the cli. feels good to do development to scratch an itch https://github.com/gdcc/python-dvuploader/pull/28
decided to celebrate that little development with some ice cream and a bit of time enjoying the sun on an afternoon walk while listening to Mall Grab. it seems spring is effectively here in seattle.
wrote my first bit of python in quite some time and damn it feels good to use type signatures
