The hazy silhouette of new foes haunts an episode of Frieren that turns the tedious process of figuring out what they're like into something more gripping, where the shots' physical depth is key. Within an adaptation concerned about the way people leave, a wrecked town is powerful imagery

Accelerating the serious story has had positive effects wrt character dynamics (trimming baldie's sympathetic situation when rooting for Yaiba is already a struggle), but it means there's whiplash with the sudden sense of gravitas & scale. This is exceptional in isolation yet sorta weird in context
Moment to moment in Yaiba is still mostly a blast, maybe even more so this week because Yosuke Hatta's delivery is that much more compelling. Starting to feel some friction between the top level decisions (faster pacing, keeping dated humor, etc) and the *excellent* execution in the trenches, though
Really not feeling Ninkoro beyond specific bits like the extended Sanpei Shirato parody at the start of the first episode, but Yuki Yase storyboarding the second one is a fun hint about an upcoming Thing I'm more excited about
Only did one cut on ep 2 but I really liked doing it!
See you next week ~

An understated quality of Akira Amemiya may be his adaptability (reason why people thought he was just an Imaishi clone?). You can see his whole career in this clip from Sorairo Utility #12, but he's *still* adapting to its stop-and-go rhythm as opposed to the longer pauses he used in Gridman/Dyna
Akira Amemiya is credited for the storyboarding of the last episode of SoraIro Utility and the short preview sure looks very good already.
You can feel his touch on many shots.
Looking forward to watch it.
