Sailors have been wearing striped clothing since medieval times - not just for fashion purposes (tho stripes do look pretty cool). Stripes increase visibility against the waves if someone falls into the water.

It's trivia puzzle time! This one comes from Forest Walker Davis. Forest runs live pub quizzes as FWD Trivia in OR, and serves as the quizmaster of The Conundrum, a weekly quiz show on NPR's KLCC.
