Ah, now I have a story about Lantern Men in this anthology that I'm still proud of. They are turbo-charged by climate change in a future deluged East Anglia.

Hi folx, KA Silva here, writing horror comedy with lots of body horror & cryptids!

Currently reading Ojibway Tales by Basil Johnston. Rewatched the Murderbot tv series last night. Been watching a lot of MST3K & Rifftrax since I need lighter things to combat the daily horrors IRL. #HorrorWritersChat

A few off the top of my head;
@erynmccee.bsky.social is a consistent gem.
@daniel-lorn.bsky.social has this gift(or curse) for stories that will stick with you for years after.
@nocturnalxlight.bsky.social has some fantastic blogs deconstructing horror.

And the Booked podcast.

Hobbling footfalls dragged across the forest floor, a trail of blood at the centre of its pattern. Hitching breaths, pained whimpers. The torch hand was trembling so much that even the earth beneath feared it would fall.

Still, Lúðvik (Pronounced LOOTH-vick [strong TH sound) pressed on, deeper into the woods. The lights from his village were waning, the further he walked, but he knew they would be of no help. They never were.

He tried to remember how to make communion, but doing anything was too difficult. He just needed a god. Any god. Someone that would intervene and save him from this torment.

The autumn chill was seeping into his bones. Still, he pressed on, having lost any ability to feel. It should be a tragedy. It should be something one should avoid. But for Lúðvik, this was his life.

And something needed to change.

At last, he made it to the centre of the forest, away from eavesdropping ears. His legs gave out, and he dropped to his knees. He curled his fingers into the cold earth. He had to carve into the soil with his nails, creating what he hoped was a suitable circle. His fingers were trembling by the time he tried to replicate the runes.

Even with how numb he was to the chill, he wished that it would ease the pain between his legs. The deep, inflamed throbbing. The phantoms of such excruciating pressure.

Still trying to hold his torch, he held it up despite his stance. His teeth chattered.

“Gods above and below, hear my plea.” He gasped it out, unable to keep his voice even. “Hear my desperate call. I need your help. Send me your strongest, your most worthy. Please. Please, help me.”

Nothing seemed to happen, which made him start to break. Would not even the gods help him? Was this truly by their will? Was everyone right all along? Due punishment for a crime he never committed… But surely, that was not true. It *had* to be a mistake. What more could he do to prove himself?

#HorrorWritersChat Thank you for such a fun chat!
No horror stories to promote (YET) but have a snippet from the horrorotica I’m working on.

At the end of his rope, Lúðvik summons a dark entity he’s tried running away from for revenge against an abuser that framed him for murdering his own husband.

Pretty much anything horrific from @stephengrahamjones.com or @chuckwendig.bsky.social gets my vote. And Ryan Coogler and Jordan Peele are the best horror directors right now IMHO. #HorrorWritersChat

EVERYTHING

A lot of what i write is mashup: horror + crime + sci-fi, + whatever else grabs me...

I've written a sapphic con artist trilogy set in 90s London, & a screwball romcom; I have an ongoing series of demon detective novellas that's basically Discworld x Miss Marple...

Burning was more common in Scotland than England. Here, the tendency was for hanging. It's all a sad tale on the whole of trying to either keep women or the poor, or both, in their place.

#HorrorWritersChat Can order elsewhere, but support a small business that put my book, Unfold, out. For readers who like slow burns, but this creature feature has great payoff even if it mostly plays out like a workplace drama. Feed the rich to monsters.
