If only 2% of people polled have ever taken part, just *who* wants to retain fox hunting, asks Saoirse McHugh

Sprat are small members of the herring family, and are the basis of whole marine ecosystems. Yet they're being hoovered up by pair-trawlers to feed fish farms.
Please sign our petition calling for a pause on sprat trawling until we have more data.
Thank you!

Pie graphs showing how animal agriculture is the least covered theme in climate reporting, compared to regenerative agriculture, consumerism, land use changes, residential, general agriculture, transportation, fossil fuels, mining, manufacturing and energy production and emissions.
Sentient’s analysis of 940 climate news stories across 11 outlets found that 96.2 percent made no mention of meat or livestock production as a cause of climate change.
This makes animal agriculture the least covered theme in climate reporting.
My attempt to cut through some of the misinformation around farming and water quality as we approach decision time on Ireland’s nitrates derogation

Yes. We have to worry about AI and robotics.

The last frontier of empathy: why we still struggle to see ourselves as animals.

Fox hunting is a cruel and outdated practice, it’s not a ‘rural cultural pursuit’. Most people don’t want it, including those in rural Ireland. my.uplift.ie/petitions/pe... @uplift.ie
It would appear that civil society are equally unwilling to mention the elephant in the room when it comes to agri emissions - an almost complete capture by animal agriculture. Pussy footing around the issue by eNGOs has gone on for far too long already.
'Hijacked'? 'Pushing an agenda'? It's called EU law, namely the Habitats Directive, it's been in place for decades, & like most laws Ireland is failing to do that well, while our biodiversity pays the price.
So, yes, eNGOs are pushing it. Unapologetically.

“Ireland’s derogation farmers” - are those the ones responsible for the pollution that plagues our natural environment and is killing off water bodies like #LoughDerg and #LadysIslandLake?
Looking at you @stopclimatechaos.bsky.social and @foeireland.bsky.social
Wake up @news.rte.ie we’re in a #climateemergency and you have a duty to report accurately on this. Animal agriculture in Ireland represents 38% of our emissions.
The Lie of the Land: A Game Plan for Ireland in the Climate Crisis should be read by everyone who cares about our future on this island.

In March, the American government deported more than 200 Venezuelan men from the U.S. to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador. The New York Times interviewed 40 of the men who were imprisoned. They described being beaten, sexually assaulted by guards and driven to the brink of suicide.

For those in any doubt, the ongoing nitrates derogation debate is not about the science on water quality, it's political wrangling, with our rivers, lakes and seas caught in the crossfire.
Our waterways deserve better- one can't drink politics.

I pay tribute to Joanna Macy, who died in July, in the latest issue of permaculturemag.bsky.social. She was one of the most important ecological and spiritual teachers of our times (as well as my former teacher and friend).

We have ****ed the climate. Dressing this up as temporary overshoot is indefensible. But this does not mean we are doomed, & it certainly doesn't mean there is no point in trying to turn off the fossil fuel spigot. It's time to get real with climate risks.

We're glad to have co-signed this complaint to @rte.ie . Appalling that our national broadcaster did not address climate change in the Presidential debates. Young people deserved to hear what their next President thought on the issue most shaping their future.

Barely a fortnight on YouTube and Global Warning has already been watched half a million times. Plus look at the appetite in the comments for more reliable info. @aljazeera.com has made them free to air so share them.
