OK, this is wild.

In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them.

It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*.

What the HELL?

The political effects of X’s feed algorithm - Nature Among users initially on a chronological feed, 7 weeks of exposure to X’s algorithmic feed in 2023 shifted political attitudes and account-following behaviour in a more conservative direction compared...

Brainwashing, 2026 edition. This paper shows how X's algorithmic feed shifts people's views rightwards. It's a sophisticated, highly effective form of reorientation. And it is utterly chilling.
If you're still on that platform, unhook yourself now.

Headline:
Hermitage & Gardens candidates
Ata and Fin demand action on LOCAL estate agent spreading hate

Letter excerpt:
Dear Cllr Sarah Williams,

We are writing as the Green Party councillor candidates for the Hermitage & Gardens ward of Haringey to express our deep concern following the recent article by London Centric regarding the real estate company SmartLet Estates based in Hermitage and Gardens, and the social media account tied to them using tenants’ homes to spread anti-migrant hate and misinformation.[1]

After a series of viral TikTok videos posted by the same account falsely claimed that homes were being handed out to “illegal immigrants” for free, it was found by journalists...

Green Party Logo Mark at bottom.

Bridging identity with account links One of the most common questions we get here is, “can you help me connect all my different accounts?” You’re on Bluesky, and Instagram, and Mastodon, you make a video series on YouTube, you have a blog, sometimes you post on Reddit, and a while back you set up

Got another new post! Bridging identity with account links. They’re a simple, modular way to connect your various accounts and posts across the open social web. Bridgy Fed supports them, and we’d love to see other apps and platforms adopt them too.

Feedback is welcome. And support us on Patreon!

If you bought a Framework Laptop 13 at its original launch, it required a lot of blind faith. The idea of a laptop you could upgrade yourself was spectacular in theory, but here we are, more than four years later, seeing Framework’s grand ambitions come to fruition.

How we can smash Britain’s two-party system for good at the next election | George Monbiot Labour is beyond repair. Time for a co-ordinated strategy to support progressive parties committed to electoral reform, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

By betraying his voters so comprehensively and so soon, Keir Starmer has done us a favour. He has given us 4 years to design the government we want.
In this week's column I explain how it can be done. There's massive
potential, but we need to start now. 🧵

Labour 43.9 Green 34.3 With a graph of the polling percentages with greens rising.

Great to see this happening in my neighborhood - I'm not surprised.

Obviously no reflection on Diane at all - it's entirely a response to the awful Labour Government who are turning people away in their droves.

Expect more of this & we'll be here with the positive alternative.

Any scikit-image fans in Vienna? The #skimage team would like to meet in Vienna for a code sprint Aug 14-16 ahead of EuroSciPy. We'd super appreciate it if someone's workplace can host us! All we need is electricity, natural light, and (most important) walking distance to coffee. ☕️😂🙏

Good morning from a Bounds Green Busybody, denim jacket over my pyjamas at the main junction at 7 AM, because there’s been a huge crash here overnight.

The Facebook group last showed a car still here, stuck on the railings. There will be hundreds and hundreds of kids … 1/8

1. This is Piles Copse, the largest remaining fragment of high-ground temperate rainforest on Dartmoor. It’s a tiny speck of green in a dismal, human-made desert. Prepare yourselves for a story of breathtaking perversity, told in this thread. (There’s a one-page version at the bottom). 🧵
