Yeah of course. I'm talking more about the relationship between them and the media. Like - the way (after my time) they talked about Slipknot. Fully swallowing the whole alter-ego thing in EXACTLY the same way the tabloids did with the Spice Girls. It was so obvious.

Sepultura, Machine Head, Pantera, Fear Factory - all were really heavily pushed. Metal Hammer and Kerrang basically said "yes sir" to the labels.

ALL the bands I listened to when getting into music had wholesale music industry backing. I wouldn't have heard of them unless their labels paid for PR which led to the music press and TV featuring them. I only really figured this out about fifteen years ago and it made me feel weird.
