@gruber.foo

(Continued) One cogent point in Golumbia’s argument is that yes, technology elevates the masses—but it always elevates the powerful more.

The book has made me look at so many things differently.

Next on my reading list is his 2024 book, published posthumously, Cyberlibertarianism.

@gruber.foo

hello, and deep thanks for all you do.

In the 28 March Dithering you say “Overall, the progress of technology is democratizing.”

This sentiment helped motivate my entire career.

And then this year I read The Cultural Logic of Computation by David Golumbia. (See next message)

It goes without saying but it’s important to keep saying it.

America needs to stop cheering for the pickled egg On madness, cynicism, absurdity, and the event horizon to the end of the republic

In the first Trump admin, Americans used “I didn’t vote for this” as a shield

We should be clear: that’s gone now

We’re near the event horizon of something really bad—and this time every American should be ready to own the death toll & despair. Unless we stop it

Odd that big British and French and Irish and Israeli news organizations have already posted stories on this, but not yet the @nytimes.com or @washingtonpost.com.

Not everyone can fight Trumpism and Trumpists directly. But remember this: kindness, decency, and fidelity to American values are defiance in the face of Trumpism.

So be kind, decent, and faithful, particularly to the many kinds of people despised and attacked by Trumpists. That’s revolutionary./1

in light of Zuckerberg’s capitulation, relevant too, perhaps, is that the designed, further degradation of online discourse becomes the new training data for LLMs

Definitely going to investigate some of the albums & artists featured. Very fine funky jazz, going down a treat here.

To folks following this account, thank you!

This account for now is for me to read posts from journalists, attorneys, politicians, news sites, and so on. Not for me to post.

Also, why would anyone follow thousands of accounts? If I see you do, it's unlikely I'll follow back

Have a nice day

Within hours of joining bsky three friends found/followed this account and 10 bots/annoyance accounts did

The latter activity surprises me… didn’t happen in years on mastodon
