The Council of Europe Shows What Good Platform Regulation Looks Like in 2026 A new Council of Europe recommendation offers a framework for platform regulation that places human rights and user empowerment first, writes Owen Bennett.

"What sets the CoE Recommendation apart is that it inverts [the predominant] approach, and instead makes the empowerment of users and creators the starting point of platform regulation."

My hottest “I have no data to back this up” take is that phones aren’t making young people less happy. What’s making them less happy is living in a world where everyone is having their reality defined by recommendation algorithms that can only care about whether something keeps you watching.
