But then she receives a videotape in the mail that looks like it was filmed near her and she no longer feels safe.
This book had a really strong start, but parts of the middle and ending stretched credulity - even for a horror novel.

And Jorie embellished their experiences there....
Ten years later, Jorie lives with her son in a house inherited from her grandmother and works at a grocery store, thinking she's escaped all the craziness.

Jorie and her two friends turned their love of horror films into a brand by recording themselves on "film haunts" where they'd visit the sites where the movies were filmed.
But it all fell apart after they visited the place where the cult classic "Proof of Demons" was staged.

The blurb for this book sounded so creepy and thrilling: a woman pulled into a cult horror film that is determined to have a sequel.

I'm a huge fan of stories told through video transcripts, message boards, and text messages and author Chupeco used them expertly to make the story suspenseful and compelling.

17-year-old Storymancer records videos of his investigations into the cryptids, the disappearances, and the secretive labs of Penumbra facility and their research.

Wispy Falls is surrounded by woods where strange creatures lurk and the residents are warned not to go in the woods. But if people disappear, no one seriously tries to find them.
3/5
story, Wispy Falls is an isolated community, cut off from the rest of the world. (The residents aren't completely sure what happened but cryptids may have taken over the rest of the world.)

In this creepy dystopian horror?

But actually the scariest part of the story (and most thought-provoking) was the extent to which some parents get paid to invade their children's childhoods.

But Bella may not have escaped - is she being haunted by the bullied fan?
This one had me guessing about ALL the characters, their motivations, and their secrets.
4/5
So when a fan is bullied in the group and then later commits suicide, Bella is blamed and temporarily relocates to protect her children from backlash. Then Bella needs a nanny for the twins and Caitlyn is hired since she lives in the area.

Definitely an author to watch and can't wait for author Justine's next book!
Caitlyn and her best friend Bea were invitation-only members of Bella Greene's fan chat group. Bella shared her life, including her twins, with these fans who felt intimately connected to Bella.

What amazing twists and turns in this chilling horror story about influencers and obsessive fans.

These books evoke such visuals that it feels like I'm reading a movie, even the violent parts. (But I just read those parts quickly and don't linger on them.) What a fantastic mini-series this would make!
OK, I'm finished gushing about these books (for now).

• What are the other lands in Ur Dinye and how do they interact with Edessa?
• And other lands have different elements of nature for their magic?
• At the end of TMOM, Sarai has an interaction with someone? something? and then forgets - what was that??
3/5
I'm not usually one to re-read books, but I DID make an exception for TMOM and yes, it was definitely as phenomenal as I remember.
The new book TBOO answers some of the burning questions I had from TMOM:
• What is Kadra's origin story?
• Is Kadra changed after returning from after-life?

I was absolutely elated to find out that one of my favorite books "This Monster of Mine" had a sequel with more about Sarai and Kadra!

Plus she gets a text message threatening to expose her as a fraud: "I know you lied...."
I'm hoping there will be a sequel since Abbey was such an interesting character and her cases could be very thrilling!

Since then she uses her reliable gift for detecting lies in helping to prevent wrongful convictions.
But now that same murderer wants Abbey to review his case and look for inconsistencies, saying that he didn't kill her sister.

Definitely suspenseful and page-turning!
When Abbey's sister was killed by a serial murderer, she was the star witness.

So when Pennie tells Eve that Angel needs their own bed for sleeping and that several local people have died because of secrets, Eve's attempt to control her world starts to crumble.

Eve (23) and Pennie (10) are adopted sisters, living in their former foster home Raven's Rock. Pennie is an unusually fearful, silent, and emotionless child. With their adoptive parents (formerly foster parents) dead, Eve wants to protect and love Pennie with the care that she never had.
3/4
There's foreshadowing and hints of what happened at Raven's Rock but there definitely should be trigger warnings for readers.
This one really kept me guessing until the end... who or what is Angel that is talking to Pennie? Angel watches the bad people and keeps them away from Pennie.

Fantastic book but I like dark, disturbing, creepy novels.

Or even Bertie Everson and Fauna Kitson from "SVC"? I thought of Fauna when Belinda and the Hartley's have an outing at the London Zoo. Or the list could go on and on of characters that should have their own books, so keep writing, @aimeeisalwayswriting!

and when they pop-up there, I (silently) giggle with glee!
So, I won't spoil any of the book, but the scene with the embroidery hoop made me laugh out loud. And the ending was adorable!
Dare I hope that we see more of Dora Hartley and Theodore Sliger in the next book?
