I have worked on this painting for a number of years, yet I have never quite felt it's done. Today I realized that I could do another dragonfly, but instead of dots of paint use pearls opposite the current dragonfly... Some pieces aren't done until they tell you

Haili Blassingame (@shutuphaili) This makes me think of the couple of romance readers who were not happy about my argument that we should carve out a third space (outside of commercial and upmarket romance) for literary romance, and ...

I absolutely love the idea of literary romance versus standard #romance books

Just finished reading To Catch A Raven, the third & final novel in the 'Women Who Dare' series by Beverly Jenkins (@authormsbev.bsky.social). I enjoyed the novel and series. Highly recommended! ✍🏾📚💕

There is a difference between preparing someone for difficulty and convincing them to make themselves smaller before the difficulty arrives.

Writing fanfiction about media you used to love un-critically from an older and more critical lens needs to be more common.

Geoff Bennett explores Black comedy’s history and cultural impact in 'Black Out Loud' YouTube video by PBS NewsHour

“In the 1990s, a remarkable wave of Black sitcoms and sketch comedy reshaped American television. Shows like “In Living Color” and “Living Single” reflected a wide range of Black life and helped broaden how millions of viewers understood Black experiences.”

It's very weird to be told by a mentor to stop editing so close to the last draft and go work on some fanfiction to clear my brain.

Feels like when mom used to say to go play outside because she wanted the house to herself for 15 minutes without dealing with my random obsessions lol.

"Write for joy, but edit for pay."

Don't chase formulas. Chase ideas that excite you.
Don't protect your babies. Protect their capacity to grow more.
Don't follow trends that bore you. Follow the vision you intended and the one you discovered.

I needed the reminder and wanted to share it with you.

That makes a heck of a lot of sense. When I began a southern gothic novel, I got a grant for research and the hardest part of re-organizing (which I found unexpected). Having a system or mindset to come back and create order sounds somewhat less stressful then expecting to get organized to start

How has organizing the research been going? I find how people research their historical novels fascinating.

Is this...book....satire? No offense intended but....

Sometimes I get frustrated because I want to talk genre and so often on here people just push their books, but I do get it. I really do wish there were more spaces to talk shop, as both reader and writer.

Need something good to read this afternoon? Or at any point?

You should try a Christmas romance about a widowed father who meets a public relations diva who hates their shared hometown but came back for the holidays anyway. #BlackBookSky #BookSky #WriterSky

Introduced Papi Lobos to Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. I look over and he's RIVETED. The show beat out the ADHD urge to multi-task

Genuinely, fell in love with him more because we both cried during the episode "Coven of the Damned".

Writing Tip:
Poke holes in your own story. Don't baby it, because your critics and readers won't. Be tough on your narrative, while still being fair to yourself. You want to find those plot holes before your readers do, so put your story through the narrative wringer.

How will this play out when multiple people are in front of the tag? If I am out with my white partner, and he gets X for one price and I got X for another then that seems like a civil rights issue.

This Is Your Brain On Uber This week we feature Keith Chen, a behavioral economist at UCLA and the head of economic research at Uber. Keith explains why surge pricing makes us nuts and discusses our weird economic choices.

(6/11) Uber tracks battery life. Former exec Keith Chen noted in 2016 that users with low battery are statistically more likely to accept surge pricing. Uber says it doesn’t use that data to set prices, but the correlation remains a point of regulatory scrutiny. www.npr.org/transcripts/...
