The police station was only 5 minutes away and after giving them a timeline of my activities that afternoon and calling my landlady they let me go. But they investigated seriously, searching the bushes near my house and questioning my colleagues. Oh! And it was my birthday!

Needless to say, I had not done it (I think maybe my shirt/bike/helmet was the same color as whoever did) & she did seem a bit taken aback when I turned around to face her and she saw I was Tay. But still the cops took me away (they had just come on shift and were not uniformed yet - confusing!).

Fun fact: I was once arrested for robbery in Hoi An. An older VN woman followed me home as I was leaving work and as soon as I got off my bike in front of my gate she started yelling that I had snatched a gold chain from around her neck. Instantaneously, 50 neighbors I had never met surrounded us.
