No. Absolutely not. If it's vital to understanding the movie, put it in the movie. Don't assign me homework.

I am increasingly of the opinion that the moment Avengers Endgame first hit the theatres, everybody involved in Marvel Studios was cursed by a witch and forgot how to do everything that made people like their films.
I see the clever people on Bluesky have started on the "adults liking silly pop culture is indicative of the collapse of Western civilisation" discourse again. Dressing up your juvenile sneering as cultural criticism & political commentary, like some wanker in the sixth form. Good luck with that.
I think it's Power Man Annual #1 reprinted in Mighty World of Marvel Annual 1978.

Moe complaining to the bailiff that has repossessed his floor that his customers are walking around on the pipes.
Getting some new flooring in the house and the bog has to be temporarily removed so we're staying in an AirB&B that's 'round the corner from where we live. Having a little holiday closer to the Tescos as a treat.
But needless to say, I understand why those two stories are not getting recommended and I'm by no means calling for the return of that writer to mainstream comics.
So much of what I love about Hal is in those two stories. I wonder if newer generations of readers were being recommended stories where he's more human & conflicted, rather than stories where he's either a cocky dick or an evil time-god, then they'd be more inclined to like him.
The cover of Green Lantern: The Road Back trade paperback.
Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn trade paperback.
I often wonder if one of the reasons that Hal Jordan has become a bit of an online punchline these days is because some of his best stories (or the stories that made me love the character at least) have been (understandably) erased from history because of the writer's crimes.
In a 1991 documentary that Trump suppressed, Christopher Reeve comments on Donald Trump:

But I still like it though. :)
I like it but not as much as others do. Loeb's not one of my favourite writers (although this is one of his better stories) & I'll be honest, I love Tim Sale but I'm not a fan of how he drew Superman.
I've been reminded by @intogreenwood.bsky.social that it's #SupermanDay! So here's a thread I did last year of 20 of my favourite Superman stories. A lot of obvious choices, but a few deep cuts too I think.
As it's #SupermanDay, here's a thread of #Letterboxd reviews I've written for Superman movies. Spoiler, I liked them all. First, here's Superman (1978):

Action Comics #1, his first appearance, was published on this day in 1938. :)
And finally, here's every live action movie that features Superman ranked in order of how much I love them (Shazam doesn't count, you don't see his head).

I'd love to see Secret Years and When it rains collected, they're great. And I would particularly love to see A Bizarro collected as I've never read it.
He's not even the best reporter at the Daily Planet.
Clark Kent, having narrowly escaped an enthusiastic group of fans thinks: I COULD UNDERSTAND THIS IF I WERE RINGO STARR BUT CLARK KENT SHOULD BE A NOBODY TO THOSE PEOPLE!
I'm reading Superman #219 (1969) in which Clark Kent struggles with a level of fame akin to that of Ringo Starr.
He should try warning his fans with peace and love!
