If you know even the first thing about Cairo (the one quibble I'd make with this story is it reads like the complex story of the town, which the reporter likely included at first, feels edited down to a minimum to keep things moving) you'd get just how infuriating and heartbreaking this story is.
this feels like a good place to recommend Ennuigi, a free game where you play as a depressed Luigi and wander through a ruined mushroom kingdom landscape smoking and making forlorn observations about his and his brother's lives

The Apostles of the Sacred Heart nuns made 8th grade in Tampa bearable. From using "Star Trek" & "Star Wars" as vehicles for teachable parables to history lessons that included Shirley Chisholm, Harvey Milk, John Howard Griffin & local indigenous culture, they were anything but typical educators.
