George getting some learning in this morning. 🤓 (And batting at the screen when kitties come on). 😻

Notice how the most celebrated and successful space mission in *decades* was run by at least 50% “DEI hires”—not all white men? And not even all Americans. Maybe diversity *is* strength . . .
Yesterday, four astronauts swung around the far side of the moon, traveling farther from the Earth than any humans had ever gone before, taking some spectacular photographs along the way. theatln.tc/19ze00pK

Hello, Sweet 16!
#BoomerSooner ☝️
Illinois has a new #hail record. 🧊 This week, IBHS joined scientists at NIU to confirm the largest hailstone ever recorded in the state, using our advanced 3D scanning technology.
From the March 10 storm, the stone measured 168.05 mm at its max and 93.03 mm at its minimum, weighing 557.2 grams.
George keeping his eye on the chase in Illinois. (Very near where I grew up!)
Yay!!! How exciting! 🥰
They are doing really well. Although George really misses the “nature window” aka the patio door at R&D’s place. He doesn’t get chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits on his porch here 😜
Miss you as well. Things are good in OK! Hope all is well with you too! Maybe I’ll see you in the field this spring?!?
The face I get when I leave the house for work. Pulls at the heart strings…. 🥹

Two of my students won awards at #AMS2026! Mia Smith (@maliyah-wx.bsky.social, current URA) won an Outstanding Student Poster award in the Student Conference. Lindsey Peterson (former URA) won 1st prize in the Societal Applications Symposium student poster competition. I'm super-proud of them both!
I guess in his mind, women and ‘radical leftists’ fall into the same category — people he thinks he’s entitled to ‘force himself upon.”
Cloudy Norman sunset 🌅
Seeing Obama at big sporting events is great but it’s also a reminder that a decade ago we were largely on the right path as a country and we threw it all away for an entire era of boiling hot racist rage.
In January, an EF2 tornado was photographed 1 mile from my apartment complex while I slept peacefully through a barely audible siren. That felt like a sign to get a NOAA weather radio. The only issue now is George, who seems determined to test its durability by chewing the antenna into oblivion.
Great piece out today in Physics Today on historical origins, contemporary relevance, & fundamental irreplaceability of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which remains at imminent risk of dismantling for partisan political reasons.
He’s calling this game like TB12 is still his QB. He knows Maye is mobile right?? Move the pocket! Use his legs!
Cuddle puddle initiated. Glad it’s just snowing so far!

Five ways NCAR has changed our understanding of weather (& saved lives)
The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), an operational research center crucial to furthering our understanding of weather and helping to save lives and property, is at risk of being dismantled. We must not let that happen.

GWC radar workshop March 7, 2026
GWC training season is here, ya'll -- and we're kicking off with a new kind of event to answer your requests for more time to learn about radar! 🥳⛈️📡
More info in thread ⬇️, but all the details also at girlswhochase.com/radarworkshop
Can see the Aurora all the way down in Norman tonight!
Some sunset colors on the developing storms NE of Norman earlier today. ❤️
Weather radar people: I’m on the steering committee for a Radar Technology Community Workshop to be held at NCAR in early 2026. We’re trying to nail down dates and topics to attract a good cross section. Please fill out this 5-minute survey and share the link! www.eol.ucar.edu/Radar-Techno...
Screenshot of the lesson, showing a radar dish overlaid with text: "Online Course Dual-Polarization Fundamentals 1h 30m - 2h Description Once an experimental type of weather radar, dual-polarized (“dual-pol”) weather radar is now deployed across the United States and many parts of the world. This lesson will introduce the basic principles of dual-pol weather radar. By the end of this lesson, learners will understand physical meanings of several commonly used polarimetric radar variables, including differential reflectivity, correlation coefficient, differential phase, specific differential phase, and linear depolarization ratio. Examples will be presented demonstrating the distinctive polarimetric signatures of different scatterer types, both meteorological and non-meteorological. Note: This lesson has as a prerequisite the prior lesson, Weather Radar Fundamentals. It is strongly recommended that beginning learners complete that lesson before starting this one."
I am so excited to announce that one of the radar meteorology courses that I developed with @comet-meted.bsky.social is now available! Presented my Master’s thesis research today at @ams41radar.bsky.social characterizing ZDR column behavior using X-band radar observations and simulations in potentially tornadic storms. Huge thanks to @tornatrix.bsky.social for all her guidance and contributions along the way. #radarnerd
