Just finished The Hacienda. It was overall a pretty okay book but def way closer to what I wanted from a Mexican gothic story than Mexican Gothic so I at least appreciate that. 🫡

He's like Cormac McCarthy to me ig. Like as long as they don't write women it seems to be okay but also why am I reading an author who is so shit at writing they can't write women. Idk man.

I know plenty of ppl whose opinions I respect tell me they like his books (it's why I tried them in the first place!). But I think he's wholly incapable of writing anything other than a white man and I'm just not interested in authors who cannot write over half the population.

I've only read Artemis by him and spent the whole book irritated that it was so obviously written by a very specific brand of annoying white man that I gave up on him entirely as an author. 😔
