Still not sure I understand how this works - often I see multiple posts and reposts of the same thing plastering my feed, while missing entire discussions about other stuff. Hints?
Newsflash from Germany’s international connectivity. It is much faster to fly to Frankfurt to get to the city near Stuttgart than to fly to Stuttgart. Find the mistake.
The hits keep coming. “The departments that won’t be accepting Ph.D. students now include art history, cinema and media studies, classics, comparative literature, East Asian languages and civilizations, English language and literature, Germanic studies, linguistics, Middle Eastern studies…”
This is a fucking travesty by my alma mater. Sadie T.M. Alexander was not just the first black woman graduate at Penn Law, she was the first black woman to receive a PhD in economics ANYWHERE, and was the first black woman to practice law in the state of Pennsylvania. She's a true pioneer.
Ah the slippery slope of having ethics. Eerily reminiscent of the „but I‘m the good guy!“ argument when doing questionable things.
@deutschebahn.com always lovely to get on a the ICE610 starting in Munich and it is NOT cleaned whatsoever. Overflowing tradh, dirty toilets - nice!
“‘If this is the price to pay for me to be able to work and my students not to go and sell shoes at Walmart, I think I can live with that,’ Gerard Karsenty, chair of [Columbia’s] genetics department, said.” I wonder how they think about entitlement, honor, dignity, etc., in the genetics department.
Next week, I'm starting a new project called "Algorithmic Kitchen" with support from the @wellcometrust.bsky.social a project that weaves disability design with health tech. I'm ready to grow new networks with direct engagement with a touring kitchen!

Nicht zu vergessen der Oberleitungsschaden.
Ausserdem sind ständig unbefugte Personen auf dem… Gleis?
Looking so much forward to forging new connections with and between my groups with new international postdocs - stay tuned! @khiflorenz.bsky.social @kit.edu @maxplanck.de

The fellows will also spend part of their fellowship in my Lise-Meitner-Group #CodedObjects in Florence in cooperation with @kit.edu @khiflorenz.bsky.social @maxplanck.de
@thisamericanlife.org brings an episode of #TheRetrievals on the question of interoperative pain during cesareans and one aspect missing so far is that #generalanaesthesia can also be traumatic for a birth which is another reason why OBs might try to avoid it.
Racism live as it hapens. Radio commentator of BR24 for the women’s soccer EM quarter final Germany vs France says about the German’s (Hendrich) foul by pulling Mbock’s hair: “the German didn’t do it on purpose” but rather Mbock had “such mighty hair (!!!)” that Hendrich “had to grasp it” (!!!!)

Bar chart titled "Matters of Scale" comparing proposed US research budget cuts to the European Union's €500-million (US$571-million) "Choose Europe" fund. The chart shows: * National Institutes of Health (NIH): $8 billion in cancelled grants and $18 billion in proposed cuts by 2026 (long orange bar). * National Science Foundation (NSF): $5.1 billion in proposed cuts by 2026 (shorter orange bar). * EU's Choose Europe fund: $571 million (very short blue bar). The graphic highlights that the EU fund is much smaller in scale compared to the US budget cuts. Text above the chart explains the EU’s intention to attract US researchers in response to policy decisions by the convicted felon and rapist Donald Trump.
If people think American scientists are somehow going to land in Europe, I've got news for you about the difference between millions and billions.

Shannon has been such a support & lodestar for me over the past decade; a brilliantly inventive scholar and astonishingly generous human. So much of what she writes so beautifully here is resonant, of being (a woman) in arts/humanities academia, and of carving weirder paths through the green 🌿
Danke - rechne mit einer Absage but who knows. Bisher kam noch nix.
Kam das heute? Wir warten auch….
It’s a good thing Congress isn’t alive to see this
How…utterly surprising
Does not everyone see better with less noise? And hear better with their glasses on?
