A monument to a hero in the center of town

The town will be populated with slug NPCs I swear!
How the visuals have changed over time:
The past few months I've been doing another visual pass at the NPC slug town.
Last version was a good improvement, but it still was not quite there yet and I had to make some bold changes. Very happy with the results this timeπ
Here's a quick tour!

It does take place on land, but all creatures are inspired by marine animals. The main character is based on a sea slug!

I've always loved the look of the coral reef biome in Don't Starve Shipwrecked, so I tried to create my version of it using Unity's Shadergraph.
All generated with procedural noise :)

Finished building heavy weapons with a slow 2-part swing primary attack for damage and huge knockback, plus a devastating slam for alt attack.
It's hammer time π₯π¨

Thanks for the feedback! Reminds me of Subnautica, which wasn't made to be a horror game, but became very well known for a lot of scary encounters. Glad to know I can create moments of tension like this in my game π
This is fine this is fine this is fine π

A lionfish-inspired creature that lunges at its prey to deliver a ferocious bite. Better watch out! π¦

Testing spear weapons with a 3-part thrust primary attack for damage and knockback, and a spear throw for a strong alt attack, all aim where the cursor points at.
How do you think this combat looks in a top-down 2D game with 4-directional animations?

Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year's Eve! π Lots of exciting stuff coming this new year, so here's some festive jellyfishes to kick off 2025!
Thank you very much!
I have some funds from my previous job as a game producer, but at the moment I'm very fortunate to have a wife who supports both of us with her salary.
It's been two years since I started working on my game full-time. The toughest part was reworking the all of the art, and my NPC village got the biggest face lift. It was a very long process but a good exercise to explore the direction I want.

Indeed it is! More wacky creatures to come in the future. And thank you π
A quick showcase of #cooking in the game - you can build a grill that takes a single food item to cook, or a stove set that requires multiple ingredients to make fancier mealsπ³

It's an urchin infestation!! π±

Are they rabbits? Are they cows? Someone even called them mammoths?! π€
All you need to know is that they're fuzzy, chill, and friendly π₯°But if they must have a name, what do you think should they be called?

An ensemble of fauna you can encounter in my game, each design references a sea creature IRL! π
Can you name the references for all of them? Which one is your favorite?
