All the publishers/dsitributors should really chip in and get a real PR firm to promote the event. It would have much better reach than relying on comic book shops to do a lot of the heavy lifting.
Diamond has a lot to blame for this, not refreshing the branding nor dedicating the time or having the smarts to level up marketing efforts beyond what was done the previous year.
But also the new distributors not coming to agreement confuses things.
Just written my annual reminder about Free Comic Book Day for @howtolovecomics.com and it reminds me that the marketing for the event is mostly crap. The branding is so old, the marketing assets are minimal, and the two names is stupid.
Each cocktail recipe has a page dedicated to its history with fun facts and insight into how the drink has evolved over time.
Imagine souring a long-term customer relationship for a quick buck.
