And this is one of the many reasons I love teaching Year 6; they’re good fun!
One of our Year 6’s made their teacher this today 😂

The team should be incredibly proud of how far the writing has come. There’s a real buzz in the room—children sharing their work, suggesting edits, and spotting great techniques under the visualiser.
This is what it’s all about.😀 Anna
The pure elation I had looking around the room last week: heads down, eyes focused, pages being produced. Not pages for the sake of it or rambling writing, but thoughtful, detailed pieces—full of excitement and genuine engagement in the writing process.
Over the last 3 years, we’ve introduced & developed our use of The Write Stuff by @janeconsidineedu.bsky.social & the impact on the children’s writing has been great. Previously, stamina was a real challenge—independent writes were short and the writing process felt really difficult.
s an English SLE, teaching reading and writing has always been an interest of mine. Popping into some Year 6 writing lessons over the past couple of weeks has been an absolute joy.
Takeaways: improving T&L is about incremental gains over time, taking people with you is No1, slow and steady wins the race
Thanks Lisa - speak soon.

Here's our a very condensed version!
Situation: whole school alignment - gotta catch those lethal mutations!
Theory: Rosenshine's Principles (+ others)
Actions: Consistent use of The WalkThrus and codification
Results: Significant improvement in consistency from Pre-school-Y6
Really helpful on-line network meeting yesterday with @walkthrus.bsky.social & hosted brilliantly by @LisaWorgan. We listened to a great case-story from a school in London & then went on to talk about our own implementation and use of the WalkThrus using the model of START to shape our discussion.
Mark, thanks for the share of the blog again. Really appreciate it.
Anna
They are pricier but we haven't had any snapped in half so far... they are very chunky. Sounds like I'm selling them... I'm not and get no commission 😂 We did try it with one class first so make sure we were happy before we bough loads. Hope that helps. Anna
We tried them out with one class last year to make sure we were happy with them first.
They're definitely worth a go! I know every school is different & they won't be perfect for everyone, but for us they're a game changer... no lost lids, no drying out, & we're half way through the year and no new pencils have been bought. Everyone still has the box they started with in September.
Cake by name, cake by nature...
Everyone is dressed up as a 'word' today and I just couldn't resist.

These are also shared with families via Tapestry so parents can reinforce and revisit the new vocabulary at home.

Vocabulary is displayed in classrooms so children can revisit and use it in context. We’ve now extended this further: key words from across Reception and KS1 are displayed in the corridors to encourage retrieval.
One aspect of this is that each week, teachers deliver focused “Words of the Week” lessons, carefully linked to current learning. Children are taught the new vocabulary with clear definitions alongside dual coding from The Noun Project to ensure consistency.
One of our key SDP priorities this year is vocabulary development. We call it 'Words, Words, Words'.
Using Primary Reading Simplified by @suchmo83.bsky.social as one of our key texts, we’ve developed our approach to explicitly teaching vocabulary across EYFS and KS1.

Today it was great to see Year 6 using resources to explore what actually happens when finding the mean average. Physically redistributing amounts really helped the children to see that the mean is about equal sharing of the total — not just “add and divide”

We're really excited to announce that @insighthq.bsky.social @jpembroke.bsky.social @richardselfridge.bsky.social will be running their 'Databusting Surrey with the Educakers' event with us in June.
Have a look at the link below for more information.
We'd love to meet so many of you in person!
For some people they’re in the catchment of one place (or maybe 1 or 2 who are similar), so no matter what the Ofsted report says, it’s dictated by where the placement of their house.
If you're not following any of these people or @psalisbury.bsky.social ,you should be.
Absolutely agree Phil - a great read!

We're not perfect, and the work is never done, but we were proud to share our journey, thinking, and school, with others.

There was a lot of love for:
- visualisers
- review and respond sheets
- mini whiteboards with squares on them & the @STABILO pencils we use
- our neutral (but not cold) classrooms
- consistency of books, book covers, storage, labelling of display boards
- pencil caddies
-tidy teacher desks
As we went from class to class, the agreed consistencies sparked numerous conversations and questions about practices in our collective schools.
and shared how we have worked on Agreed Consistencies and alignment in our school.
We shared our documentation of this that we record on trello and then we walked the school (which is always the best part of any networking opportunity.)
We were lucky enough to welcome a select, but wonderful, few HT's & DHT's to our school today as part of Linking Local Leaders run by Schools Alliance for Excellence.
We kick started the session by watching @PepsMcrea's Alignment: The Secret Sauce of Effective Schooling? lnkd.in/eZnvC26a
