Dr Elonora Fleury, "first female medical graduate of the Royal University of Ireland in 1890, she became the first female psychiatrist in Ireland or Britan." Arrested by Free State forces during the Civil War for assisting Republicans, she was imprisoned in Kilmainham Gaol. She died in 1960.

McQuaid's stepbrother Eugene served in the Free State army and was killed in an ambush outside Newport Co Mayo on the 22nd of February 1923. Fascinating file in the Military Service Pensions Collection.
