I don’t exactly how to phrase this, but like… is autism that bad???? Like, why is it such a source of fear??? Of course there are challenges but you can be autistic and have a rich, fulfilling life! Many people do! I don’t understand the preoccupation.

Three ways ex-CDC chief says that Trump team is sidelining science Nature - Susan Monarez testifies at tense Senate hearing that scientific integrity is being quashed at US health agency.

“I was fired for holding the line on scientific integrity. The stakes are not theoretical — we have already seen the largest [US] measles outbreak in more than 30 years, which claimed the lives of two children.”

Evolving national security-dominated landscape ignores history of devastating consequences of #landmines for people, animals, environment. Will anti-tank mines, triggered by weight of >100kg, distinguish vehicles from e.g. 1000-kg Eurasian #bison male? #MineFreeWorld @minesadvisorygroup.bsky.social

Death is the policy RFK Jr.‘s measles response is junk science and social Darwinism.

Survival of the fittest is not a health care policy - at best it's based on junk science at worst it's rooted in eugenics. #Resist

Side note, I think it is important to consistently refer to these grant cancellations as illegal. They straightforwardly are, and are currently being challenged in courts by @aaup.bsky.social and @aclu.org. Many should likely be restored if the law works.

Walter Cronkite's Earth Day broadcast in 1970 YouTube video by Reuters

Today in class, as it is #EarthDay, we'll discuss the role of Philadelphia in the very first celebration (with an original news broadcast!). And I'll also mention Pope Francis - his TED Talk, and my AGU blog post on his encyclical on the environment and human ecology: geoedtrek.org/2018/08/19/l...

Some of the older staff at the Academy have those first Earth Day posters and buttons. It’s pretty cool to see that bit of history. Thanks for doing this!!

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of fuckup imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe.
