When people talked about grit and perseverance when I was a kid it was "Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team". The entire arc of KPDH is, at its core, people like Maggie Kang, EJAE, Arden Cho, and others like them who "fell short" and didn't take no for an answer.

I love this film and its stories so much but for my money there is no greater American grit success narrative than EJAE. She spent years of her life trying to break into stardom & didn't make it, then reinvented herself with all the skills she learned on that journey to create a cultural masterpiece
