(But I haven’t checked it mathematically works)

A shame Derby is so far away - would have been great to hear your session and catch up!

This is even more out there than Gough’s old A Level textbook! what the rest like?

Happy to chat any time - it would be great to have a sounding board for some of the ideas!

Happy to but I’ll need to anonymise it and tidy it up - lots of ongoing notes in it during this first year of change! Will let you know when it’s shareable

I wouldn’t say we’ve reduced that time - we assume nothing, but set an appropriate pace. There is an expectation of any struggling student to come to an afternoon support session. We also make use of @drfrostmaths.bsky.social for skill practice

A Level Reshuffle Last summer, some of my long-standing frustrations with a few of factors finally led me to begin restructuring our A Level Maths scheme of work. In particular: Starting with Chapter 1 of the Year 1…

I've finally put together a blog about all the changes I've been making to the sequence in which we teach A Level Maths. Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions! sxpmaths.wordpress.com/2026/03/26/a... @tickyvanner.bsky.social @runningstitch314.bsky.social

I’ve started a lot of restructuring this year. I‘ll try and blog about it in some detail someday soon. We’ve put all of proof together so they do contradiction in year 1. Yr1&2 vectors all together. Put the mechanics into more logical chunks too

We brought all the probability together too. Also, in first year we do correlation and regression and so the first hypothesis test ours meet is for correlation

I think 320ft in any direction would be pretty traumatising!

Great - online would certainly be easier. Let's keep in touch!

Thank you for the invitation but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to miss my exam classes that day. If there is an opportunity later in the term then do let me know! What KS5 focus does the hub have at the moment?

Doesn’t your $600 calculator have a browser built in?

Basins of attraction for Newton-Raphson on a cubic. I'll try and remember how github works as a place to share these

From my GCSE examining days it approx meant 900 questions, but not all the same. So maybe 150 each of 6 different ones. I think there's a way they balance a 15 marker and a 5 marker not being worth the same as well

And one for the trapezium rule. I'm at the stage now where I can type in a carefully phrased one-paragraph prompt and trust it to come up with the goods!

As an etymology nerd, I was excited to just read that: frustum and bruise share the same root; there is a diminutive, frustulum; and, 2000 years ago, there was a play on words with frust[r]a! latin.stackexchange.com/questions/10...

Another bit of AI coding this morning. This one for visualising Normal approx of a Binomial distribution. I like being able to specify exactly how I want it to function rather than making do and clunking around with pre-existing stuff. I just don't have a convenient place for public sharing 🫤

It garbled the labels (of course) but ChatGPT reimagined this as a slippery-slope-into-manure of attendance

I jumped on the AI coding bandwagon this afternoon and have a working hypothesis test 'fill in the blanks' activity. @themathsbazaar.bsky.social will be devastated to hear it looks at critical regions :)

Do you have a doc you could share? Perfect timing for my Y12s!

It seems like ChatGPT is happy to check questions/solutions from the JSON format!

No worries! If I can do anything to help then let me know. I've got coding experience

Nonetheless a really useful resource! Using it a lot with my Y13s these days, especially the 4 question do nows

I wish I'd kept a screenshot of the question, but there was a Y12 binomial 'find the coefficient of...' that didn't show the correct answer. Also on a worksheet, Q13 didn't have a change of sign and Q15 had a sign error in show that answer (it had minus, not +)

Stuck indoors on a rainy Saturday? Why not pop in an application to come and see what Hurtwood is all about!? Closing date is this Friday. (And then I'll stop re-posting this 😆)
