Finally. HUD.
Here's a close-up of the retro prerendered goodness that will adorn the borders of the screen.

Tiny announcement: we have a Linktree now.
I mistakenly thought it was a site where you go to show hole (their logo doesn't help)... while you WON'T find that sort of thing on ours, what you WILL find is a handy hub of everywhere else we exist online

Hell yeah I had one of those! Also had I think 3rd gen Digimon that used a scanning gimmick too... setting kids up for a future at the checkouts?

Those handhelds are all before my time, but it did make me think of this - does anyone else remember those Sonic ones from happy meals? They sucked.

Various ref I dug up. Let's be honest, the handheld gaming scene was pretty grim before the gameboy.

Right now my dialogue boxes are a big blank canvas ready for some personality, so I put some more thought into theming HUD elements. Here are some concepts trying to go for the look of crappy old handheld games - y'know the kind with calculator graphics and yellowing plastic and peeling stickers?

I've been doing some concepts for future areas of the game! This is a special location I'm calling Sewer Henge, for obvious reasons. Rubber boots recommended.

Three armour-clad brothers in arms stroll through a park.

I spend a lot of time visiting the British Isles via Google street view, doing research and getting reference for the game. Sometimes I play roulette and drop somewhere completely random. You never know what you'll get.

Adventure game lovers should definitely play The Drifter by @dave.powerhoof.com, which I finished recently and thought was excellent. An actiony take on the genre which propels you through the story and I really loved the dark, pulpy Australian setting.

Rosewater, my Wild West adventure game, has been out nearly 4 months and has been very well-received!

But I also feel like it’s reached a fraction of its potential audience.

If you can spare a repost and help spread the word, it would be greatly appreciated!

What's a point & click game without cursors for pointing and clicking?
Figured these should be pre-rendered sprites to fit with the crunchy 90s aesthetic - what do you think?

Look at this glorious UI rendering that games from yesteryear (and HighFleet) sported!

Was doodling some ideas for game UI. I'm a fan of that retro maximalist aesthetic, but maybe it's too controversial for this day and age!
