An ode to the platonic ideal of puddings, the syrup sponge (as well as a bit of a request to enjoy the good things).

Too kind! Syrup sponge pudding will always be ordered if I see it on any menu.
What a band. Loved easyworld. Saw them tour their second album. There’s a book about their demise, I believe.
I do think not enough credit is given to context collapse as an explainer for both things. Fewer shared references means less social cohesion which also leads to weaker brands.
I've read some of JM's stuff; it's the breathless complaining of a version of me in my 20s. Not sure I fully agree with him. Will have a look at W.Ong.
I think an organising idea will still be important. I think people will tire of surface and want depth.
Agree. I'm waiting for the next 'we committed to a brand idea and did really well' new/old marketing case to come to light.
The other interesting thing - context collapse. When dominant frames of reference truly erode - what happens then? How do brands create them without looking like a Dad dancing at a disco?
It won't come from AI.
So, what interests me is - what happens when hyper-personalisation doesn't work? What happens when you can't hit the marketing button for MOAR SALES?
I suspect there will be a reversion to humans in the loop.
99% of marketing people do not like, or want change, despite the breathless proclamations about the new thing. The only people who do are selling it.
It gets EXHAUSTING to learn the new thing which is unlikely to really move the needle / may be a total waste of time. #axieinfinity #metaverse
Just in case you were wondering, I have no desire to go to an event which is essentially live podcast with the same old, tired industry speakers.
Give me the 25 y/o doing strange things with reddit sub-communities. Give me someone who had midlife crisis and came back to industry later.
A guy wearing the most ridiculous giant heavy black-rimmed Play-Skool ass dork computer glasses you could ever imagine.

Keir Starmer failing in defence at a critical moment and bottling a long time lead must feel amazing for the football fan inside him, it's like he's actually a part of Mikel Arteta's arsenal

I do like pasta, but MY GOODNESS stuff is expensive. Just a takeaway from say Waitrose or M&S is serious cash.
Was it the Pasta Evangelists lot?
Distinctiveness AND differentiation. Best marketing campaign i've seen this year.
It is just outstanding commitment to the trust exercise. Up there with Rosenior's weird circle around the referee.
My children both had noro recently. Managed to swerve it with my usual diet. #bodyisatemple #beer
Shades of Hank Scorpio.
Friends in TV, can you help here? (Or independently wealthy friends)
Honourable mentions to Tunnocks, Border and Arnotts, obvs. But they aren’t a McVities dark chocolate digestive.
A terrible McVities biscuit ad, where three actors share a packet of biscuits on a train. The line is ‘A tuck in that gets everyone talking’, and the endline is ‘Make it a McVities moment’.
The world’s best biscuit manufacturer deserves better than this shoddy, brainstormed in AI, bland pap.
“Hmm, what usage occasions do people eat biscuits? I know, a train. Exotic.”
A screenshot of the Arsenal manager, Arteta’s attempts to inspire his team. Each more cringeworthy than the last.
Until I read this, I wanted Arsenal to win the league.
Thank you, Jay. Will pass all of this on. Very much appreciated.
Thank you! Will pass that on.
And a brilliant overlap with his surname.
