The second “/pineapple” took me OUT went from nodding along to almost spitting out my tea

#EddieMunson and will be #steddie by the end, as always 💖
WIP Wednesday and I have been working on some longer form pieces, please excuse me absence lately 😅 one is if Kas!Eddie spoke through the lights in the aftermath of season 4, the other on if his mom had been Jewish, and how that would effect his relationship with religion and himself after her death
I SAID I LOVE YOU
I AM ALSO A WHORE
IT WAS ENDEARMENT
Oh baby. What a gift. What sweet tribute you hath done unto us.
How I would be
Full thing you say 👀 we await patiently and hope that both sides of your pillow are always cold 🫡
Just realizing now that I’m missing the I in “in”. Pretend it’s there ok guys?
Steve laughs, and then chokes on the muffin, so Eddie is just aggressively patting his back. They both end up cackling and then just sitting tangled together for a bit in their blanket palace. They’ll work it out.
#steddie
Steve is confused at first, and then just plain happy so he sits and tries to swallow the muffin. Eddie is fussing and asking if he wants something to drink, they don't have tea but they do have mountain dew...? and coffee! does Steve like coffee? or water! Water is an option too!
He calls Robin, but Eddie being Eddie, panics and over corrects. He invites Steve over and Steve no sooner lifts his hand to knock on the door and Eddie is ripping it open, shoving a cornbread muffin into his mouth and shoving him towards the blanket fort in the middle of the room.
At which point Eddie is like "what are you talking about? Sweetie’s name was Harry?” and Wayne has to sit for a minute processing that his nephew first of all didn't know his friends first and last name, and secondly that these boys are idiots. "Harry? Like Harrington?" and Eddie just stops. Frozen.
And it feels too soon, and you know, Steve used to be a popular jerky jock so shouldn't that matter? And Wayne is like,, "respectfully son, we've been here before. You love that boy the same as you did back when you were kids."
"boy you haven't been this wound up since before you came out WHAT is your problem". Eddie has had like,, passing interest in people (guys) before them but nothing this intense, and he's so confused because he likes Steve a LOT.
Meanwhile Eddie is agonizing over his crush on the fallen King of Hawkins and Wayne just smiles and shakes his head. Round two has begun. When Eddie's just about pulling his hair out over his crush, Wayne sits him down and is like,
Steve is heart broken for a second time and it DOES take him being pathetic for a week before Robin intervenes.
He makes it the same way that his housekeeper used to, but he's tall enough to reach the back of the counter now, and he remembers that Muffin always said the tea wasn't sweet enough so he adds a little extra to Eddie's glass. But Eddie is just like “thanks man” and goes back to talking about DND.
So after Steve realizes it he is like "oh. oh it's him. it's go time. you've been planning this for years Harrington, you've got this." and the next time everyone is over at his house he makes tea.
So Eddie has been not so subtly trying to talk to every Harold in the school and doesn't understand why NONE of them react when he brings up corn bread muffins.
He forgot about that entire first interaction beyond Sweetie claiming him as his friend so by the time he comes back to Hawkins, he has NO inkling that he should be looking at last names.
You see, Eddie didn't know what the other kids meant by "other name" but it doesn't matter because he only hangs out with Steve and they stay away from the other kids so he never clocks that they're going by last names. Assumes Harry is Steve's first name, rolls with it. Renames him Sweetie anyways.
But sure enough, if he looks in the corner of the living room and squints, he can see where his T-rex ate Muffin's dog in the great shadow puppet war of '76.
Down the line, Steve is over at Eddie's. He doesn’t recognize Wayne past the way that he would recognize anyone from Hawkins, but hears Wayne call for Theo. Stops him dead in his tracks. He looks around the trailer. It's different than he remembered. It feels smaller (he’s bigger). More cluttered.
School comes and Sweetie is no longer Harry, he's just Steve now, though he does become "The Hair" later on, everyone thinks it's because of his routine, he never admits that he's still trying to find his friend.
Eddie's dad ends up picking him up early, and Steve had no way to know. He knew his friend was leaving soon but it was too early, right? He spends the rest of the summer with another boy from the program, Tommy, who goes to his school and they become friends, but Tommy is no Muffin, is no Theo.
Sweetie waits for hours. Muffin never comes.
Uncle Winnie drops them off at the park the next morning and they plan for what they'll do during Muffin's last three days in Hawkins, the following day is one without the church program and they make plans to meet by their tree in the woods, snacks included of course.
The boys oo and ah at the appropriate times, and when Uncle Winnie goes to bed for the night they stay awake with flashlights making shadow puppets. It's maybe the happiest they've ever been.
Sweetie and Muffin walk from the park to the trailer, Sweetie's backpack dragging along as Muffin holds his pillow. The blanket fort they make that night is one of legends, Uncle Winnie had worked the day shift to spend the night with them and regales them with stories of his time at war over dinner
