Can I enrol to vote in #NZ?
YES if you are 18 years or older, a NZ citizen OR resident for electoral purposes, and lived in NZ for >12 months or more.
Resident for electoral purposes = you’re living in NZ lawfully and aren't required to leave within a specified time.

A really nice story about how 'Pō Atarau' ended up on the soundtrack of Project Hail Mary. One thing I would add is that the 1976 master tape was preserved and digitised by the Alexander Turnbull Library. That's why it was discoverable. thespinoff.co.nz/pop-culture/...
Already over 100 people have tried this quiz today.
Top score is 17/20 for "Anne", "Paul" and "Sandra" but I don't know their BSky accounts to tag them in.
Average score is 11.67/20.
Most difficult question is number 3 (30.4%) and easiest question is number 14 (89%)

"The key question to ask about ‘free speech’ is freedom for whom, and about what? Across the country at present, as well as in schools, Māori interests are being marginalised, and Māori voices silenced."

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand.
If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers.
If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers.
Spread the word.
We don't need the government to spend billions on big fancy new roads.
We need them to build lots more protected bike lanes.
A 13-year study found that protected bike lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
It makes roads safer for everyone.

“Even the most skilled school leader is constrained by the ongoing failure of the state to address the deep inequity in our education system. New Zealand ranks 33rd out of 38 developed countries for its overall equality in education.” — Rebecca Macfie, author of ‘Hope and Hardship’.
"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality."
- Desmond Tutu

Where are we finding information about local government candidates this time around? Anyone know if factaotearoa.nz will be updated?

NZ Prime Minister Luxon is "mistaken" (lying) when he says he "saved #SchoolLunches".

Image of a diverse group of people, holding a sign that says “I don’t know how to convince you to care about other people.”
Reading New Zealand politics headlines each day that consistently talk about being woke as a bad thing 🙄
Stigmatising empathy is the fastest way for far-right politics to embed - and for far-right power to be consolidated and maintained.
This story from Gill Higgins is really good. Evidence-based, shows a variety of NZ cities, and shines a light on Simeon Brown’s ridiculous position.
Every time he was told how the data shows that he’s wrong, he only had “my time is valuable and I like to drive”. He can’t justify govts position.
This video does all the work for me to convince everyone that we need to build bike lanes for transport in tiny Trinidad & Tobago! #MobilityIsEquity #LeadershipMatters #PoliticalWill

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Has a bee ever landed on you, and instead of getting scared, you appreciate the possibility that you got confused for a flower.
My PhD work looked at a few angles of this. When streets are dangerous, fast, car-dependent, and loud, many older folks are inclined to stay home. Walkable communities promote health and well-being through so many pathways
I would not have guessed Richmond would be spiking. Interesting…
A young boy on a bicycle waits at a stop light at an intersection in Delft. An older woman in a headscarf on a tricycle waits next to him.
Let’s be clear: cycling is the tool, not the goal.
By changing how we move, we can change how cities work; allowing everyone to use public space on their own terms, without feeling excluded. Whether they're an 8-year-old or an 80-year-old, we can make them feel welcome.

Being intentionally kind takes nothing from me, but can mean everything to someone else.
