Not really. Our ancestors didn’t have to account for the correlation between economic growth and global climactic destabilisation. The sheer complexity of climate change as an organisational issue cannot be compared to anything from the past.

You clearly don’t understand my comment. I’m saying that democracies can historically slide into authoritarian and that the US is not except from that rule. And yea, the GOP anno 2024 has an authoritarian streak, they’re literally denying election results.
But that’s the historical problem with democratic backsliding: Electorates don’t learn, they just slide further along the lines of authoritarianism.
I regret to inform you that I do sometimes judge a book by its cover.
