Absolutely disgusted by the behavior of the American president but not at all surprised. Every Republican needs to condemn Trump's racist post though the die hard Trump cultists will come to his defense. America is such an embarrassment under the Trump regime. #TrumpIsRacist #racism #DonaldTrump

Last night's ADSN conference dinner at Thai Pothong was fantastic! Just look at the cocktail I had order, never seen anything like it! It had mango, pineapple, and even sticky rice in it. Definitely would go back to this restaurant the next time I'm in Sydney. #ThaiPothong #Sydney #FancyCocktail

Enjoying the Australian Data Science Network (ADSN) Conference at the University of Sydney. Quite a few interesting talks on AI, LLMs, machine learning, and data science. It's been a great opportunity to meet and network with the folks in this area. #datascience #AI #machinelearning #LLMs #ADSN

Off to Sydney to attend the Australian Data Science Networking Conference for a few days. Hopefully the weather will be a bit less gloomy in Sydney.

So Brian Kilmeade on Fox advocates for killing homeless people and later issues an apology but is not fired yet Jimmy Kimmel gets fired for criticizing how the right has put all the blame for Charlie Kirk's murder on the left and Trump's response to the murder. The double standards are ridiculous!

The murder of Charlie Kirk was an awful act. Jimmy Kimmel condemned the murder of Kirk but rightly voiced his criticism of the far right for putting all of the blame on the left as well as Trump's response to Kirk's murder. Because of that Kimmel is canceled, a clear violation of free speech!

Australia Post joins other global mail services and suspends US parcels Australia Post is taking the extraordinary step of immediately suspending many forms of shipping to the United States, as a Trump administration tariff deadline approaches on Friday.

Australia Post and other Australian-based carriers have suspended most package shipments to the US thanks to Trump's tariffs. I guess I won't be shipping any gifts over for Christmas! Hope Americans don't mind paying more for goods as they will be the ones paying the tariff tax! #TrumpTariffs

The final instalment (for now) of my blog series on predicting exoplanet orbital obliquities is now live (www.astrobrett.com/obliquity_ML...)! Here I use a simplified binary random forest classifier model to predict obliquity classes. #DataScience #MachineLearning #Exoplanets #RandomForest

Video

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

WTF! Sounds to me like Dump wants to forcefully annex Canada via economic warfare. I'm truly embarrassed right now that I'm an American and my heart goes out to Canada. As I'm living in Australia, I will boycott US products and try to buy Canadian products when I can. #Tarrifs #Canada #DonaldTrump

Disgraceful 😞! Dump is destroying America. Wouldn't be surprised if marriage equality is attacked next. My heart goes out to the LGBTQ community in America. Definitely want to stay in Australia.

I remember when it hit 46C in Sydney back in January 2013 when I was a PhD student at UNSW. That was the hottest temperature I've ever experienced. At least it's mostly a dry heat in Sydney when it gets that hot though still awful regardless.

Predicted versus measured orbital obliquity from the random forest regression model. The predicted obliquities were produced using the testing dataset features and the measured obliquities are the actual obliquities from the testing dataset. The red dashed diagonal line is the one-to-one relationship between predicted and measured obliquities, points along the line indicate that the predicted obliquities agree with the true values while points off the line indicate a disagreement. I think even under a super progressive US administration, a US flag would still be planted on Mars, but would reflect pride in "yea we made it to Mars" as opposed to "we now own Mars". The problem with Dump and Elon in this case is that they will use this opportunity to claim ownership of Mars.

While I do want to refrain from posting political stuff on Bluesky and focus on astronomy and data science, this was a really bad look for Elon Musk and America. This makes me embarrassed to be an American citizen.

1 year ago 3 0 0 0

While I agree with sending astronauts to Mars, I strongly oppose one country claiming a planet or celestial object as their own. The US planted a flag on the Moon but it does not own the Moon. Elon and other billionaires/oligarchs would like to claim Mars for themselves, this is what we must oppose.

Over the past few months, I've been working on an exciting data science project using machine learning to explore exoplanets. I’ve documented my findings/methods in a series of blog posts on my website (www.astrobrett.com/data_science...), so check it out! #DataScience #MachineLearning #Exoplanets

Does Meta enable scammers on their platforms? I've noticed tons of scammer 'sponsored' content on Facebook, illegally using trademark brands (e.g., JBHIFI) to scam people. I've reported these, but according to Facebook, there's nothing wrong with these ads. It's one of many reasons I'm leaving Meta.

I plan on using this platform for data science and astronomy related content, including projects I'm working on. But for my first post, I thought I would share these photos I took of an impressive double rainbow 🌈 from this afternoon after a heavy thunderstorm. #rainbow #thunderstorm #Toowoomba
